That is a crying shame that such a thing has been left to rot like that. Someone has been very stupid/stubborn to allow that to happen because I can't imagine there has ever, in nearly 50 years, been a lack of people who would want to look after that car.

Like that Alpina 7 series. And the E55. And the S8.

A rhd Alpina of that generation needs a plaque and historical documentation linking and supporting the conversion; the last time it was for sale (it's been on sale A LOT) no plaque or history could be found.

Put simply, why would anyone ever take a plaque off an Alpina unless you were breaking it.

Whats the consensus on a circa 10k L322 Range Rover? That sort of price would get me a post 05 facelift with either TD5 powerplant or the Jag petrol V8. I reckon the TD6 will feel underpowered, but the petrol will be juicy - this will to complement an e39 M5, so I don't really want a second juicy car. The only other option is to spend a bit more and go 3.6 TDV8, but then its a case of budget creep because I know I'll want the 4.4 TDV8 with the 8 speed box on the 2010 facelift
Any help with the conundrum, or indeed any alternative?

I really wouldn't buy a Td6. A 3.6 TDV8 is massively better (even though, as you say, the 4.4 TDV8 is a decent step on from that).
