Say I was to have money resting in my account, would this kind of e46 be a bad idea? Boot floor would be asked about and priced in accordingly. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

I love the colour combination. Anything else to be aware of aside from boot floor and rust issues?

Indeed, I suppose if it is Brazilian then it could be rather hair raising.

Too expensive and the engine size is tiny laugh

My 500 was a lot less and has the proper 326bhp v8.

Does the running in service matter at this age and mileage?

I'd be passing it to my mechanic - I take it there's not too much that is challenging compared to modern cars?

Also, I've driven many modern diesels, a tesla, c and e 63s and so on since last driving a car with this engine (a z4m). At the time I felt this engine was magical - lots of power as you go up the rev range, an incredible sound and so on. Perhaps I am misremembering as I'm now old!?

Probably not these days if its still running fine, although it'll be the first question a punter will ask at resale time.

I like that E46, looks like my old 'un. Don't think your memory is tricking you either: the motor should enjoy zinging to the redline as is its the most natural thing in the world.

R129 looks nice.

An E46 M3 really does sit very well doesn't it, just kind of look right.

Autosport show was awash with Mk2 Escorts (most of them very, very desirable), but bizzarely not a Mk1 to be seen. confused

Strange old world.

Anyway, I'll take the RS1800 on the RSOC stand. lickcloud9

BDG & ZF cloud9 No Millingtons or sequentials will be going near my lottery winning Mk2.

No idea where all these good mk2 shells keep turning up from. They were like hens teeth when I was competing 20 years ago.

No, you remember correctly. A proper engine. They won't be making them like that again.

I just bought one before Xmas. Full smurf (LSB inside and out).
That engine is a cracker. Its not stupid fast but plenty quick enough to have fun.
Its a far more entertaining car to punt about than the M5 was (despite being obviously slower).

I love it. Will be sitting alongside the 355 (if I ever get my garage built) for much the same reasons.

350z: looks like you can pick one up in reasonable nick / not been to the moon and back for about £5k. Even ignoring the chavved-up ones, Cat C/D, modded, etc, there's still plenty that at least in the advert / looking at the pictures, look OK for the money.

A reasonable steer for a bit of RWD fun, decent engine, presume (as Nissan) pretty reliable, anything particular to look out for?

(ps. on the E46-front, I agree, great engine – my old (S54) M Coupe was (I think) a derivation of the E46 M3 lump, but my BMW beard-ness isn't too great, but the S54 was fantastic!).

All I remember from when I bought mine is about the rear axle I think and the stereo being a bit pants. Good fun car though.

350Z is a good fun old school kinda coupe. I think they are ageing pretty well although the interior is a tad Japanese if you see what I mean, was just reading an old Evo magazine yesterday (Ugust 2008 issue) and in 'The Knowledge' they put the 350Z as their choice.
