Elan looks lovely, never driven one but I know Gordon Murray has always raved about them and he knows a thing or two. Assume has great steering feel and just flows down a road, is there any modern comparison ?
Sounds obvious and corny I know but a Mk1 MX5 really is oh so close and you can feel the inspiration. Still not asgood as an Elan though imo.I love them.
You read my mind was just editing my post to say excl. mx5 as tbh never driven mx5 either, think I need to have a steer of both someday. Big power def not eveything

I'm not sure there is a modern equivalent, but as well as the great steering the ride is outstanding: it is sublime in soaking up any imperfections but also delivers it's legendary handling.Weighing only 700Kg helps a lot as well.

It's from a time when cars had .... nothing. Forget driver aids, this has no wing/door mirrors and not even hazard warning lights.
Looks brilliant. Hopefully you haven't had to search for the hazard lights through necessity... My old Alfa didn't have hazards but from memory the indicators worked without the key in the ignition, so at least I was able to have the left indicator flashing while broken down on the roadside... love the elan, mabrook! as we say in the sandpit. best colour for the sprint imho, is it pistachio green?
long been a 26r lover but this one caught my eye a few days ago which looks oh-so-right in a totally basic no frills wallflower kinda way. interesting it didn't sell as i'd have thought $30k is bang on for a slightly 'lived in' example.

Well isn't that lovely!
Just been out for an early morning blast, and to experience my first cold start. It does make you realise how much we take for granted with modern engine control and fuel injection systems. Everyone should be made to try and coax a coughing, spluttering, snuffling pair of DCOEs into life of a winter's morning.
T'is a great thread isn't it, such a diverse mix of cars being bought/mentioned/discussed.
Stupidly jealous of young Jeremy in his Pistachio Peril, such a lovely little car and they are an absolute hoot to drive. Then there's Herr Barchetta Boy with the 12C supercar that he is finding his feet with, what an adventure that is going to be.
Plus the MINI purchases too
all round

I have some thoughts, not yet a plan, but would welcome input, regarding the Mulsanne family.
From the driver's seat I far, far, prefer the Brooklands flavour, with the full console and floor change. So much more satisfying somehow.
Not available on an 'R' - would I be missing much, other than amusement?
I'm 11 months into Turbo R ownership. Mine's a 1993 model with the 4-speed auto. I looked at a fair few horrors during my search and at one stage considered an earlier Eight as I found a rot-free well cared-for car. However, after driving it I was left underwhelmed - it looked the part but had no real go compared with the Turbo. I've not actually driven a Brooklands but suspect the lack of the turbo would feel similar? Clearly they are not your average hoon wagon but I do find the additional poke of the R makes it possible to despatch Sunday numpties and MPV muppets with ridiculous ease, given the tonnage From the driver's seat I far, far, prefer the Brooklands flavour, with the full console and floor change. They are an insane amount of car for the money. Over £125k when new in '93 - I paid £54k for my first house in 1992 !
If your thoughts do turn into a plan I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience
