So, can I interpret that as a "no" for the 3.4? Eeeesh, sorry to hear about more potential issues. Really enjoyed your thread so far, would be sad to see it end like this.Think your car looks great on the 17" wheels. My favourites on the Cayman have always been the 997 Carrera Sports but they're kinda huge.

Agree that they're starting to really looks sharp, how likely an RMS failure or any of the other internet horror stories?Bought 8 years ago on 56k, now at 155k. Used daily for everything from commuting to track days to touring. Still on its original engine, which was bore scoped last summer and got a clean bill of health.
It's not been without its costs for other bits though. Gearbox/diff rebuild 3 years ago. Radiators replaced. Brakes seem to be made of cheese and only last a couple of years. Rear tyres last c.8k miles. Had a lot of suspension bits replaced last year (top mounts, bushes, f&r control arms etc). AC recently stopped blowing cold, so that will need some TLC. There's always something that needs doing on a 16 year old car!
A good year is c.£1k in servicing and upkeep. Insurance is cheap though at c.£300.
Personally, I think they have an almost perfect level of usable performance for UK roads... not so fast/grippy that you can't use all the performance on occasion.

ETA
Cracking engine and the coupe looks really rather fantastic. I used one for a couple of weeks and it was rather lovely I must admit, I believe there is a mod for the clutch?

CDV is the clutch issue.

Depends how you consider the value of such things. It's about the going rate. Is it twice as good as an E90? Not for me. An E92 330i would also be a much better overall product for less money.
If you're going to Z4, I think you have to ///M, which is much more money.
The answer is, of course, as it is increasingly becoming the default......
A breathed on E46 M3.

That's quite lovely. No extras though, at all? Quite tricky to pull off on a Porsche!Bought 8 years ago on 56k, now at 155k. Used daily for everything from commuting to track days to touring. Still on its original engine, which was bore scoped last summer and got a clean bill of health.

Could someone explain the title of this thread please?
Go to the first post of the first thread (several years ago). Start page 1 of this thread, which links to previous thread etc.You can't follow the threads back as JAYB didn't copy the previous thread link in on one of them. Burn him!

I think the only extras mine has are PSM (I think this was only standard on the C4 in MY00) and possibly the rear wiper (they are extra cost now). But it doesn't really want for anything - it has leather, leccy windows/mirrors and AC. I have put a more modern head unit in it so I can have Bluetooth/iPod. Would be nice to have the 3 spoke sports steering wheel (but nothing really wrong with the 4 spoke - which is lovely and thin), and heated seats would be nice for cold morning commutes, but they aren't essentials.

Epic threading chaps. Although I'm wondering when a clean sheaf will need to be teased away from the scratchpad - 107 pages!

Arrived yesterday, no. 60 of 1000. Thanks for the recommendation, looking forward to having a delve this weekend
cmoose - Ack! So, 3.8 conversion and a proper 987.1-based GT4 thwacker? In all seriousness, rubbishness. I hope the news is good for you sanity / wallet (at least one or both). That Alpina Roadster looks taste-tee and Z4s are generally pretty nice imo, although I can help but feel that they don't present cracking value unless you go ///M, which in turn means that you're buying a "teutonic TVR tribute" (I can dig this) rather than the best resolved example of contemporary ///M (would arguably be a toss up / three way tie between E39 M5, E46 M and E46 CS(L?). Possibly. I get you regarding size though.). Or a nice 986 box?

It is when there's no good reason why you're not considering an E46 M3 instead.Problem with the Z4 is that it's cheaply built in the US, and it feels it. Trim starts rattling in the first few thousand miles; not helped by the terrible damping (which in turn is exacerbated by the RFTs on non-M models).
Good looking car (in M flavour; I personally feel the standard cars look a little anemic), but it's no Cayman rival.
£10k will get you a nice M3.
