A TVR Griffith 500 is a pleasant machine with which to cross Europa.

Our Tuscan 2 convertible was pretty awesome too. Drove it to Sicily when it was jut a few weeks old. Despite hitting 40 degrees it didn't miss a beat the entire trip. And at mid revs it sounded like a supermarine spitfire.

Lovely for people to see out and about too. Fewer cars look or sound better than a Griff.

You'd get a tan and tinnitus with the Speedster: buffeting and racket over 80 is unbearable, hood up or down. #bubbleburst

No you need something grunty, something comfy, something British.

That AM looks as epic now as it did in the mid 90s. So cool.

My trans-European express would be one of these:

with the running gear from this tucked underneath:

Car for a Euro trip?

'One can only imagine the astonishing sight of this pure sports racing car howling through the length of France, on its newly registered Milan number plates.'

I think that would be about as close to motoring Nirvana as it gets for me. cloud9

Oh dear, then I won't bore you with driving back into Chamonix from Suisse amongst traffic from the Tour du Mont Blanc Vintage Car Rally one year, with a Porsche and an old Alpine in front ( sounded great ). Yes, sunshine and mountains, it was awful ;-)

Just back from a pre-season fettle at the excellent Back on Track, Guildford and ready for the summer!

It hasn't put me off though, and I'm considering a proper multi-country Euro road-trip again next summer. However, it'll probably be in something more humble (and Audi-shaped) than a Speedster

Didn't you previously have a 964? What do you think of the Elise in comparison? And out of interest, what suspension are you running?

I often have those whimsical thoughts of;

A euro roadtrip, what car...? No time limitations or costs ie fuel etc.

Hmmm.
Western Norway (Stavanger) to Monaco in an M coupe a few years back.
A well sorted CX Turbo 2 preferable.

I think for the ideal roadtrip I'd have to take something like an Audi RS4 or RS6... Or a 5 series tourer with the gubbins of an M5 under it. But that's only if I was taking herself... her wheelchair takes up a surprising amount of room.

I think going solo would have to be some sort of BMW M car. Something comfortable on the autoroute and autobahn, but also quick enough to make the autobahn go quickly and suited to the mountain roads when it gets to them. 1M? (Turbocharged, I know - but think about when it gets up to altitude!)

I might be having a quick jaunt through France in this come Summer.....

For a 19 year old motorcar it is well-equipped, rather brisk and devours miles with quite an appetite.

Need silicon lubricant on your spine with German offerings.
Plus French cars have bigger ashtrays.

I've had a Bilstein b12 kit fitted to my 550i Touring. It's transformed the car. It's a bit harder yes but I like it.

I suspect that will be sublime for the trip
