Here's my What I did at the weekend* essay.
*Strictly speaking it was the previous Bank Holiday weekend, but y'know editorial timescales and all that.

The ad's a bit short on detail (never a good sign I don't think – I love a detailed advert), but this does look very nice. I've never been a soft-top person before, but they are really growing on me, and given the entry price of getting any half-decent motor these days that does look good value (albeit I know nothing about Boxster prices, that could be the top of the market for all I know…)Diesel Meister said:
It's all in the shims mate ;-)
But yesh, E46 M3s are generally more dear to run than many would credit, especially when you get The Trifecta (big service x lots of consumables + insurance and/or tax renewal, all in a short period of time). Then having to feed self / others becomes something of a fiscal inconvenience, heh.
Like so many nice cars they then get neglected by shoe string merchants trying to live beyond their means...
"no occifer, this is my dad's porsche..."
Agreed. Everyone seems petrified of the sub-frame, but there are so many other costly issues that can hit these - got stung for a few myself. Great cars all the same though, especially in CSL formBut yesh, E46 M3s are generally more dear to run than many would credit, especially when you get The Trifecta (big service x lots of consumables + insurance and/or tax renewal, all in a short period of time). I liked the CS very much but it is by far the most costly vehicle to run that I've ever had the pleasure of owning, bar none.
I think the person who bought it from MattOz timed it perfectly and will have enjoyed effectively being paid to drive it for a few years as the values have returned back to the 20k point I bought it at quite some time ago.
The chap who bought it from me sold it after 15 months or so for a £1.5k 'profit'. Still, he has a 997.2 GT3, so he's not too concerned about it! The car now has 90k on the clock, but probably worth £18-20k ish. That Interlagos car sold within hours to a trader, so it'll be up for closer to £20k sometime soon!

Will be interested to see where it pops up.

I sold my IB CS just as prices were starting to rise. I broke even during my tenure with the car, but I didn't really gel with it so got into an M5 instead. Still, its only gone up 5-6k in the period I have had the M5.....That Interlagos car sold within hours to a trader, so it'll be up for closer to £20k sometime soon!

That is absolutely lovely, great colour scheme Eta.
On my phone it looked like the top side stripe was a Castrol green type colour but it appears not. That would look very cool though

One of my friends managed to track down footage of my M3 blowing up.

At least it was spectacular in the end!
I really need to track down that Impreza driver to see if he was filming now!
