My old man used to have one of those in that exact spec (without the Hartge bits) - still rated it as the best car he ever had. For those with a keen interest in the Blue Propeller Car Magazine have done a special this month celebrating 100 Years of BMW. Don't normally read Car, but had to pick it up and have a read. Features (amongst other bits) an 1800 Ti, M4 GTS, 2002 Turbo vs E30 325i Sport vs M3 CSL vs E60 M5 vs i8, and lots of other info and tales from our Bavarian friends.
Amazing to think where they have ended up after nearly selling out to Mercedes all those years ago...
Nice BMW posting gents, Red M3 does look very and definitely lesser spotted these days, in that context maybe £10k for a good one isn't so outrageous ?
The 2002 M2, that looks like a whole load of fun, I have a hankering for one of these though with engine swap, but I think it has to be a 6 not a 4.

Glad that there is some Z4 love in this thread. I have recently acquired a z4 coupe 3.0si (manual) and love the way it looks, i had considered a Boxster but the z4 coupes rarity and solid prices (currently) swung it for me.
I have owned a 328i coupe similar to the one above and have to agree that the proportions etc are spot on for a fairly ordinary saloon/coupe.

Loved my 3.0si coop. Would still have it if I didn't change jobs last year.I have owned a 328i coupe similar to the one above and have to agree that the proportions etc are spot on for a fairly ordinary saloon/coupe.
I've never owned a car that revs as smoothly as that engine.

Agreed, only had it for two weeks and 500 miles but the way the engine revs is glorious....all other cars i have driven since feel corse (sp?).I've never owned a car that revs as smoothly as that engine.
The looks of the coupe make it look special in my eyes.

Yep in which case compared to this it's a no brainer £28k or sensible offers and I'm not sure another £10k would get it back to the level of the M3 (assuming it's as good as described)

Having said that the 3.4 996 from the thread where the guy can bleed a tank dry at a constant 6.8k is pretty cool and if there was a 3.4 for similar coin to the red BMW I think I'd go Stuttgart.

Some great BMW postings chaps, that Santorini Sport has been mentioned here before but certainly not moaning at seeing it again. Just looks 'right' doesn't it.
That 2002 'M2' is pretty ruddy special isn't it, great alternative to an Alfaholics GTA

Although Giulia GTVs/GTAs for the effingham win if you have the cash!
