What the Hugh Heffner is going on with that?! 2.5k miles?!

What's the point? Unless the owner has a useable one at least.

Spent most of the weekend sorting out the fleet...

The 996 GT3 CS - washed and polished. Fitted new Pagid RS29 on the front discs. Inspected all rose joints on the suspension for play. Wiped KWs clean. Checked for oil leaks. Thought how lucky I was to own it.

I fitted RS29 pads to mine recently (with standard discs), fantastic stopping power on track. Bit noisy from time to time on the road though.

Out of a collection probably, I bet our Alfa hasn't done many more miles in the 20 years we've had it tbh although I have put a few hundred on it this year already.

Back when he was a rebel rather than part of the establishment hehe

Enjoyed his PC column back in the day. He's now a parody of himself (and an infinitely more accomplished entrepreneur - gotta be one of the highest paid muttering rotters of all time....).

Got to love a feisty Ford; the world would be a poorer place without Uncle Henry slipping one to the collective Mrs' of the elite. This weekend's Le Mans was a fantastic double-digit to the boys at Fiorano and exactly 50 years hence the last one! Wish I was there to see it. Oh, and apparently a Porsche took over all honours?

Speaking of which... Moose: great piece on the GT3s http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I must say, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the 997: almost identical to my old one (rest its soul) save that mine was a CS. It's a shame your test car wasn't thus befitted: I've always felt that a 'Comfort' spec GT3 with those 'sports' seats is as useful as tits on a goose. Never has any car benefited more from a set of proper buckets. I think you would have found the driving experience much more to your liking.

Thanks for the link: it's a very good read. thumbup @ cmoose.

Re the Ford GT win, bit of light scandal apparently. Still, I thought they looked and sounded great. Also bit peeved I wasn't able to go.

Bit? Hideous mess! I'd be as pleased as anyone to see Ford win but it's a hollow victory at best, not that the history books will reflect the stink.

Interesting both factory 911s expired.

The Toyota's expiry was the most dramatic and heartbreaking finish to an event I can remember ever seeing.

At least since Toyota's last effort , with the aforementioned Carlos Sainz.

What about the adaptive derivatives?

Also worth mentioning the weight penalty associated with the sports/adaptive seats.

Offset by the absence of the cage and fire extinguisher though.

Yes was reading up about it, seems they took everyone's good will for a bit of a 24hr ride. Hopefully next year should be good if they have the balls to return.

WRT to Toyota, I had to leave the house around the last hour but recorded it. A friend texted me asking if I'd seen the finish. When I got home I had two sessions recorded with some tat between them, (there is a point to this honest). I didn't see the 2nd recording so clicked on the one at the top to see the number 2 car with people draped all over it drive into parc ferme. Ah, so that's the drama. Then watched the other recording which had the commentators with 10 minutes to go talking as if it was a done deal.
Seeing the Toyota team looking so expectant was terrible knowing that they would ultimately fail and then when the car actually came to rest on the S/F straight.
So cruel.

Only in CS derivatives? And then the extinguisher was optional I think.

For a start, Ford got the teams to agree to a waiver so that they could race at all this year (their 50 anniversary), given they have yet to produce any GT road cars and are unlikely to this year AIUI.

That post is what really highlighted it for me. Before that I just thought 'Merika!' now I think that Le Mans lifted their own shirts for Ford. Reading around a bit it is accepted that both Ford and Ferrari had been sandbagging throughout the year but that Ford were allowed by the ACO and other teams to race effectively a prototype as no customer cars had been made.

The claim of sandbagging at the other races is a tricky one - it's fair to say that they went into both previous rounds with eyes firmly on Le Mans, but then other teams have done the same before. The obvious example was that they were using their LM gearing at Spa. Not sure I take too much issue with that - some of the LMP1 teams will run their LM bodywork there, even though it's not the fastest package for Spa, in order to test it prior to LM.

Agree, but the 4 seconds they found at LM itself is a bit more dodgy. And the VMax being up there with LMP2 is not typical either, though the Ferrari wasn't far off.
