It's not worth exploring or it's not difficult to get a baby in the back?

Buy a Hartech sales car / 996 and then you won't have to worry. That is what I did yesterday smile

Kids love the back of a 911.

Out of all the cars suggested, the 928 is the only one which will appreciate, and probably will have the most reasonable running costs vs the 170mph and 5.4sec 0-60 on offer. Does it do it as a one-car - it could, with ease. After all, I think that's why it failed in its mission to replace the 911. It was too practical and accomplished.

The three of us - wife, 3yrs old daughter and myself had a lovely short break (5 days) around Yorkshire in my 928 GTS 5-spd. There was plenty of space for all the luggage, toddler stuff and even walking boots. Both my kids love the snug rear seats of the 928 too. When I bought my first S2 back in 2003, I did 20k in it over 2yrs, living in Central London. So, yes, they could be very practical... And I am biased of course.

P.S. I really wanted a DB9, really, really, to the point where I was about to buy a rare manual car. Then tried one with family in tow. It was laughably bad inside in terms of space and ergonomics. I am 6'6" and felt very uncomfortable. It made my GT3 feel the paragon of ergonomics. Hence walked...

It is in bits at the moment as they tend to finish them when they have a buyer.

Here is a quote from the confirmation email of what they are doing to the engine.

Full engine re-build with all new Nikasil plated aluminium alloy cylinders, piston rings, crank shaft bearings, timing chains, 2006 onwards intermediate shaft with larger bearing, etc. 2 year/24000 mile (whichever first) guarantee on new parts subject to terms.
New front and rear brake discs & pads.
Exchange front forked arms.
Full Gold Major Service.

That is quite awesome.

Nice to see a proper time-warp vehicle, completely unrestored.

Not difficult, you just need a porsche seat. Kids love 911's.
Even easier if you stow the roof under its cover first wink

Have said earlier about V8V running costs, I've just put four new tyres on the 911, and by the end of next week this round of spending will be circa £2k, I expect.

First time I've ever seen one of these on the road:

It sounded like a bag of very expensive nails and each burst of throttle was accompanied by a valiant streak of blue smoke pouring out of the right pipe, but did it have road presence or what! Stunning colour too.

I lust after the Raptor but the LM002 makes it look like a Tonka toy.

What a gloriously bonkers piece of kit it is - love it!

No car in the whole world appeals to me like an E46 M3 on CSL's. Just perfect.
I agree. Too expensive though?

If it was manual, it would be perfect.

Gentlemen, ideas please:

30k budget
Must be a 2+2
Will do around 7000 miles per year
Will do around 10 track days
Will do at least 1 3000 mile euro road trip
Not interested in 4 pots
Want at least 250hp, ideally plenty more
Must retain some decent value so nothing too new

So far considering an RPM Techniq built 996CSR, BMW 850csi, 928 manual and Mercedes Cosseh (but probably way to slow.)

Am a bit stumped.
