Another cyclist dies in London

Yes I agree with that.
I was more looking for driving/cycling advice, as in protecting yourself as a cyclist and what drivers can do to not Kill/hurt cyclists.
As a cyclist. I'm visible, always have lights. Ride defensively and don't go for daft gaps in traffic. Avoid big things, tractors, trucks, buses. If I'm in a single track lane and have a following car..I pull in and wave them past. Don't tailgate, don't gob off. Watch the wheels not the driver, always, always do a lifesaver check before moving. As a motorist. Allow room for overtakes. Back off and wait if necessary. Look twice before pulling out for anything two wheeled. Be aware that when you see one cyclist there's normally more around the corner.

Agreed, it is serious stuff.
What advice would you give to cyclists and drivers?
Cyclists - if the general flow of traffic is quicker than 20mph, hold your place in queues at traffic lights in a primary position. What advice would you give to cyclists and drivers?
Motorists - remember cyclists can't brake as quickly as you, find it hard to change gears when slowing quickly, and can't change gears when stationary - so don't baulk them.
Cyclists: being right will not help if you are killed!
Do not ride into positions of danger on the inside of large vehicles, and be particularly aware of other traffic in hazards - understand that you are in a vulnerable position and do not be caught out by left-tuning overtakers and other associated fkwittery.

Does it occur to any of the haters on here that some of the people commuting by bike may at one point have been doing it by car and have seen the light of day?
At least when they were in a car they:- Never broke the highway code.
- Paid for the roads.
- Wore sensible clothes.
- Never slowed down other drivers.
- Never got angry with other road users.
- Never posted on PH about other idiots on the road.
- 100% had insurance.
- Always had a roadworthy vehicle.
- Had training they never forgot, up to date with the latest changes and creating 100% error-free roadcraft.
- Never recorded something with their "cam", posted it to Youtube anticipating a circlejerk of congratulations from like-minded morons, only to realise their driving was less than perfect and that the average IQ of a Youtube commenter might cause them to want to stop the rotation of the earth so they can get off...
...oh wait...
- I see numerous motorbikes and cars jumping reds daily
- car tax does't pay for roads - I pay as much car tax to use the roads as a Toyota Prius does
- cycling clothes are sensible for cycling
- I get slowed down by the traffic in London ALL the time
- not seen a London taxi driver then?
- 100% of cars have insurance? Really? At least cyclists aren't breaking the law by not having it - the cars are
I could go on but I'm guessing everyone else has noted the worthless comments you've made!

In other news, saw a Range Rover this morning on Embankment...."W1 ALM" - anything to do with you walm?
This may be a bit controversial but I actually think drivers in London must be pretty good for there only to have been this many cyclist deaths in 2015, there are loads more of cyclists in London mixing it with cars and on road infrastructure not wholly fit for purpose compared to Bristol. Sure there will be near misses, close calls and non-fatal accidents every day in London but if you took the drivers from Bristol to London for a day and got them to commute on busy roads with a far greater number of cyclists, there would be 15 deaths in a day. The point is, if you think London drivers are bad and they mix it with a lot more cyclists every day, try driving/cycling in Bristol...

I have put this clip in this thread due to it being cycling related.
Is it just me or are these cyclists using their hand signals in completely the wrong place ?
Just for the record I don't think the car should have pulled out although he/she could have been reading the hand signals wrong.
I am not having a go or defending, I would just like to see other people's opinions.

I think one juvenile trainee cyclist tried to do the right hand signal but he did it too early. I don't think his hand signal influenced the driver; the driver had already decided he was going to pull out whether the kid was turning left or not.
Yes, I think bad for both cyclist and driver. The instructor was signalling well before the first left turning, a recipe for disaster.

The driver shouldnt have pulled out any later, but if I'm seeing it right no-one came to any harm, the cyclist anticipated what was likely to happen. Typical trying to make something of nothing video?
ETA ok I see it now. The kid on the bike signalled left, the car began pulling out, the kid carried straight on, the car realised and got out of the way quick
Very good reactions from the car driver. Why didnt the guy with the camera say what happened?

I said the juvenile trainee cyclist signalled early.
Unless I'm missing something, at no point did we see the intructor's signalling.

When he goes past the lad leaning on the wall you can see the instructor is signalling left, unless he is holding his arm out for some other reason ?I said the juvenile trainee cyclist signalled early.

Edit: around the 13 second mark

Missed that, but I suspect that was to indicate he was pulling back in after passing the cars.Edit: around the 13 second mark
