I bet haggling will see that a lot closer to 30k if not below
With limited numbers coming over - and the PH populous getting very moist and ready to hand over their cash.....
.... Demand > Supply.

Which means NO DISCOUNTS

If... what I think will happen - is when it comes time to put ones money where ones mouth is.... I expect Demand < Supply
Now you can consider discounts.
Are you mad? Nearly £6k off a car that's 12 months away? We're not giving a penny off the ones we've sold.

Ford's have historically been available at very large discounts (You can get £5k off the list price of a Focus ST) but I agree that if Ford limit supply or if there is huge demand then discounts will not be offered and residuals will be excellent. Time will tell.......

You're correct, although we never gave any money off the Focus RS.

A little lower, different, maybe slightly bigger wheels, no badge on the grille. MMMMMMmmmmmmm.
Bigger wheels? They look huge on that one!
Well, it's a bit lower also, so I couldn't tell if they were A LOT bigger or just a little. Either way cloud9

No thanks! Too much like a Eurobox Hyundai/Rohens Coupe esque. Not muscle car enough for me.

Where do you work? I known you're South Coast based. Be interested in discussing a purchase.

Don't get the haters for its looks. To me it conjures up far more of the classic Mustang magic than their last bloated monstrosity, regardless of the absurd HP figures....By the way there's a red one at this very moment on ebay for 44k.

I love my bloated monstrosity ! My S197 looks more Mustang than the S550 does!

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the mid 60's Mustang. I LOVE the '71-'73 Mustang Fastback. Do not like the shape of any Mustang from 1974 - 2004, but love the '05-'09. Not really a fan of the 2010 - 2014 ones either. Really don't like the new one.

You misunderstand me.
I agree with you fully.

But... if we get to 18 months time.... and you have (let's say) 1000 units for sale - in stock taking up dealer floorspace.
And you have sold (let's say) 17.
You will be talking discounts.

And - no I am not mad. - not yet wink

My rationale is - that a lot of PH folks will go ooh and ahh and get excited about something like this.
But - when it comes time to "man up" - excuses will be made.

I really do hope it is a success though. It deserves to be.

The 1969 Mustang had a lovely slender flowing form. This new one is finally back to that svelte shape. All the other models in between have been uncomfortable looking lumps, to varying degrees.

Is there anything on how many they are bringing in? Plenty of time to start saving...

Exactly. The true Mustangs ended in 1970.....Then it was Mr Blobby all the way, except for possibly the 71 'Boss'.....And latterly the quite nice pastiche that is the S197.

A figure of 500 rings a bell for some reason but don't quote me on it. Can't remember where I got that from.

Anyone know why the UK car would be down on power compared to the US one, where do those 23 ponies go on the way from the US to the UK, in a Tescos Everyday Lasagne ?
One guess: The ECM has been re-mapped to deliver a particular result on EU or UK tests for emissions and/or fuel economy.
SAE (US standard) vs. DIN (Euro standard) measuring methods also a possibility.

Ditto here, we take the order and deposit, pass the spec and form to Ford who then manage the process, dealership gets a relatively nominal handling fee rather than the more usual margin.

They don't *need* to spunk them away at all, there's no volume target for them as such, unlike maintaining large market share with mainstream models. It's a niche/halo product for the brand, just like the RS has been/will be soon.

Might as well make money out of a several hundred/couple of thousand units, you can spunk away Fiestas and Focuses in their tens of thousands, no restrictions on production on those.

Basically, they've already taken the £6k off as it could equally have worn a £37-40k starting price - and we still wouldn't be struggling to take orders.

I called Ford this am:

1. to get in the queue, you pay a £1000 non refundable deposit (deposited at Ford UK), even though you have not seen the car, let alone driven it

2. dealer (Ford UK owned) said that they expected delivery around January 2016 ..

3. demo cars will arrive in the UK "in the next few months" .. not any more definitive than that

4. if you order now with your colour combination and spec, it won't actually be built by Ford according to when you submitted your deposit

5. Ford will just build cars with popular colour combinations and spec, and if they happen to build one that matches your order, you can have the car!!!

Luckliy, there's aren't many options, and I suspect most will tick 1 option which is the "Custom Pack"

Amazing!

Having said all that, very well priced, a 5.0 V8 convertible with manual gearbox with Custom Pack is £39,385 OTR.
I spoke with my local Ford dealer. They have told me and confirmed in writing via email that the £1000 deposit is fully refundable if you don't want the vehicle following test drive when they come available.
Which Ford dealer did you speak to? I might have a chat with them next week.
Same question here please!

I've just got off the 'phone to my local Dealer, having been about to put a deposit down today, but have just been told:

1 - £1,000 non-refundable deposit for delivery NET Q4 2015.
2 - No demo/test-drive models will be available in the UK until after they have fulfilled the initial orders, then they should get some in (think Q1 2016).
3 - The initial run is mainly aimed at those who know/love the 'Stang already, so therefore are willing to buy sight-unseen...

Personally I am not about to speculatively punt a grand, followed by another 34, on a car I will never be able to drive until it's delivered, at least nine months later. Especially as its a very different proposition than its predecessor.

I would be entirely happy to put a deposit down, and wait for delivery, if it were in some way linked to a test-drive, as that seems only fair. I suspect that a test-drive would just confirm what I thought initially, but £35K is a lot of money to hold back from spending elsewhere in the meantime, when you don't know what you're getting!

It seems a bit strange for Ford to 'take the Mustang Global' but then not attempt much to attract new buyers to the fold initially.

Therefore if there is a Dealer offering what PompeyPaul (Portsmouth by any chance?biggrin) has stated, then I'd happily got to them with my money instead!

Ford playing a blinder with this, possibly inadvertently too.

What a refreshing thread this has been - a new muscle car that looks good, sounds good (even the ecoboost will makes sense to some) AND being snapped up by PH'ers in droves, clearly reinforcing supply versus demand.

No derv washing machines here!

What would be the point in taking a deposit, if you could get it back simply by stating you didnt like the way it rode? Ford wont struggle to sell these. Even if they do, it wont be a big loss to them. They have generated the publicity, and thats what a halo model is meant for.
