So does that mean if I was interested in a GT350R I wouldn't get it until 2016?

GT350 hasn't been confirmed for the UK at all, neither has the GT350R.

There was a hint that 'a 500bhp version' (which we're assuming will be the GT350) will be launched in 2016, but given the GT build times are already being touted as early 2016, if a GT350 or GT350R is announced for the UK later this year/early 2016, I doubt you'd get it until late 2016.

Ford have clearly been caught out napping and are not used to people actually desiring their cars.

Well after a morning chasing my tail it seems they are not taking official orders at FORD level just dealers sorting a que for themselves of interested parties, ie other dealers with later deposits could order before that dealer if you get my drift - a mess.

Ford UK might have announced way too early. No point in not having a car until way into 2016 - it just creates a lot of frustration. Still, suits my timescales perfectly.

Oh I dunno, if they've taken, say, 1000 orders at a deposit of £1000 a time, they're sitting on £1,000,000 until at least June time (when test drives are available, if deposits can be refunded after that time).

Would be interesting to know how many orders they have taken so far.

I have only ever ordered two new cars before. First was a Megane coupe back in '96, obviously that was with me within a week, the second was a 987 Boxster in 2005.

Ordered and specced in January and was almost immediately told the build date and when it would be in the UK. I added to the spec a couple of times and picked up the car after 5 months.

If Ford are taking deposits on cars that they can't really deliver, surely that's wrong or are they just taking advantage of fools. I include myself.

Currently I am not worried about the wait, just happy that I will eventually get one of these brand new and too my spec but I don't like having the P taken.

I don't think so, it happens a fair amount with desirable cars. True, it's usually more exotic metal, but anything with high demand will attract this sort of system.

Once build slots/delivery dates are allocated, we could see them being sold at a premium, same when cars get delivered, if demand is sufficient.

I'm aware of that (I own a Coyote powered Mustang) - but do you seriously think that the marketing people at Ford got together and decided, "This motor generates less power on regular fuel - relatively speaking, a lot less, so in order to really WOW buyers, we'll quote the lower output and keep the premium fuel figures secret"?
Nope. Of course not, but that's not to say the car can't make that power on higher octane. Cars are often quoted a figure on a specific fuel. Some cars need higher octane - the Coyote clearly doesn't over here (and does, there). It's marketing, I know. I didn't say it could or couldn't do anything. wink
The situation is exactly the same here - the engine is able to run on both regular and preferably premium gasoline - it makes 435hp on premium and 412 on regular - the book recommends premium, because regular makes the anti-knock sensors and associated ECU adjustments work overtime.

Ford make a big song and dance about 435hp here, not the lower figure - doesn't make sense to me that they wouldn't do the same in Europe.

Good point. I stand corrected biggrin

Bet they can't believe what's hit them but then are we presuming too much from our own excitement.

Mind you, if my dealer is not telling porkies that as of Saturday, they had taken 12 orders then times that by the 60 odd 'Mustang specialists'........

This uncertainty is partly why i dont want to give ford £1k deposit as timescales are such an unknown at the moment.

Once i find a dealer doing £500 deposit im in ... the other £500 stays in the bank smile

For those guys who put £500 down - which dealers were they?

Weird that some taking £500, whereas others are taking £1k.
Apparently only real men put down a Grand!

Maybe the more money you put down will mean a better chance of getting your car before the year is out biggrin

Long chat to the peoples ford mustang specialist -
They are taking names not deposits and when they as a dealer can order the cars
They will then take deposits in order of enquiry placed - sounds very fair.

Yes the rhd models are built in Detroit alongside the domestic stangs.
RHD is built at the same factory as LHD. However, the factory is in the small city of Flat Rock, approximately 30 miles south of Detroit.

Here's a cool video of the factory and how they transport Mustangs via train and how they export via roll-on-roll-off ship.

Interesting, I was told the RHD ones were being built in Ford's facility in Spain!
