They will then take deposits in order of enquiry placed - sounds very fair.
Unfortunately my bet is that they will only get to see one deposit for every ten names on that list. It's amazing how people fade away when asked to stump up some hard cash.

At least it's a good way of keeping the "test drive" time-wasters at bay!

it's the non refundable nature of deposit that is the issue .. even Porsche doesn't do this!

problem for me is I like the idea of the Mustang convertible, but want the ability to change my mind if I have to wait too long, or if having seen it, I don't like it.

The dealers cannot order from ford yet so your deposit isn't with ford it's with the dealer surely ? Can you ask that question as I believe order book opens in may for the dealers to spec the first allocated cars

Being prepared to put down £1K in the first place isn't exactly 'time-wasting' though, is it? Especially when it will spend just under a year in Ford's account and there are differing views on what it exactly constitutes and how much it is - even among Ford dealers.

Considering that the car hasn't started production, all we are really doing is reserving a place in the queue; allowing people to withdraw from that queue ahead of production will cost Ford nothing.

The point when a customer's withdrawal would actually incur costs is when it should become non-refundable.

If I have bought a place in the queue, how come the sales person asked me the exact options I wanted. I was surprised they wanted to know at such an early stage.

As I already mentioned, I'm fairly sure that is actually the case anyway.

Yes the rhd models are built in Detroit alongside the domestic stangs.
RHD is built at the same factory as LHD. However, the factory is in the small city of Flat Rock, approximately 30 miles south of Detroit.

Here's a cool video of the factory and how they transport Mustangs via train and how they export via roll-on-roll-off ship.
Interesting, I was told the RHD ones were being built in Ford's facility in Spain!
"All Mustangs will be built at Ford’s Flat Rock, Michigan, assembly plant, including right-hand-drive models."

Lip service? Better to give customers the impression they're paying for an actual car rather than asking for a grand for a place in the queue. Either way, without a confirmed delivery date for YOUR car it amounts to the same thing.

Has anyone popped into an Evan Halshaw to see if they'll be doing the Mustang?

It was evans halshaw in glasgow i placed my deposit with. according to the ford website them and another dealer in Edinburgh are the only 2 stores doing the mustang.

Why is that so captivating for me. Definitely want an Orange one after seeing that.

Concerns over waiting times are understandable, otherwise what's not to like when you see it ? woohoo Loads of detailed and positive reviews on YouTube etc. In the age of the internet you can see exactly what it looks like in detail, and find out pretty much anything else you want to know about it. It's 2015 not 1965 lol tongue out

For those guys who put £500 down - which dealers were they?

Weird that some taking £500, whereas others are taking £1k.
I talked to Sandicliffe in Leicester and they were taking 1k deposits as well.

He sounded like he'd had the conversation about Mustangs a lot recently and claimed that they had had many more enquiries than they thought they might. Although salesman are always keen to make it seem like you might miss out I guess...

He wasn't expecting anything until much later in the year as far as demonstrators went.
I'm staggered by the fact that Ford can allow such a lack of consistency between dealers, not just in terms of deposits but also the knowledge the dealers have about both the car in general and the ordering process. On Saturday I went in to Evans Halshaw in Wolverhampton (supposedly a designated 'FordStore' Mustang dealer) and clearly no-one knew anything more than the superficial details available on the Ford website - they hadn't even got a brochure or any technical information. They did, however, know that they required a £5,000 non-refundable deposit - at which point I left as I had no confidence in the accuracy of anything they were telling me. A £1,000 deposit is a little more realistic. I may well call Sandicliffe tomorrow.

With regard to the possible future 500bhp model, I believe Autocar said the V8 will be 'upgraded' to 500bhp. I can't quite work out whether this means the standard V8 model will become 500bhp, or the more powerful cars will be a premium model. Does anyone have a more informed view on this (I have actually emailed Ford but have yet to receive a reply - and I'm not holding my breath)?

It seems to me the whole thing has been badly organised by Ford, which is pretty disappointing. They have confirmed UK prices, magazines have driven (US spec) cars to get us all interested and yet (judging by the variability of feedback in this forum) their official network of Mustang dealers seem to have little or no idea what's actually happening. This is the first Ford I've even considered buying and at the moment they seem to be doing everything they can to put me off. It's very frustrating.

The ford order book is not open except for the people who ordered during the final. Dealers asking for deposits are making hay in an environment they don't come across often and if you ask who the deposit is with I am sure it's a dealer deposit - the only inconsistency is between dealer groups who don't have to be consistent as they are rivals.

Me too. Was fixated by that for some reason! I must be a geek to like that...

What's the wheels on the car 36 seconds in? Silver (not black like the rest of them (mainly)). Much prefer silver - not a fan of black wheels.
