An unpopular view, but surely approaching bubble territory this.
Its going to be very interesting to see what happens to the price of these if the cayman gt4 does actually turn up with a manual 3.8 390hp engine and sub 1300kg. Suspect the cayman will look very cheap if the 70k price mooted about is real.

I sold a showroom spec GT3 CS last year for about 62k. Would be worth 70k plus in this market. I just don't get what's going on with GT3 and other prices. I'd never pay what they are up for now.

Some hail these cars as motoring nirvana. Lovely cars, but the understeer wasn't for me and put me off amongst a few other things.

I think a market correction is coming soon...

Doesn't matter, its a mass produced car and not a 911

Are 996 GT3s really going for over £100k? LHD ones are a third to a half of that in Europe.

No they are not, not even close. Only the 996 RS has broken £100k.

997? Not sure I've seen them at those levels, used to see 996's in the 30's and was half tempted but never really liked the look of them inside or out unfortunately! Would have to be a 997 for me.

It all seems to be a knock on from the new 'automatic' 991 GT3 and the end of the 'real drivers Porsche'. 996 GT3 RS went from circa 65-70,000 to 130,000 ish and the rest followed. Everyone is holding so that they do not lose out on the price rises and 996 GT3 are climbing above 55,000.

Just a shame they are not being tracked like they used to be.

The 991 may have had an effect on older gt3 values, but the whole classic/prestige market is inflated. With oil prices dropping, more wealth in the far - eastern economies and Britain being used as a billionaires tax haven, it would take a smarter man than me to predict where it'll all end. But remember the 90. After the boom years in the city and the death of Enzo Ferrari causing prices to spiral, it was just a rise in interest rates that toppled the whole thing back into recession. Can't say it'll be the same again, because many different factors and markets are operating. And believe me I'm no socialist, but it would be nice if we impoverished enthusiasts could afford to keep these cars on the road where they belong - not just locked up as priceless museum pieces.

It's a turbocharged, four wheel drive uber barge produced in far larger numbers than the GT3. Hardly similar.

Absolutely bonkers pricing on these GT3's and other specuial edition porkers.

I would rather buy a brand new Exige and change if I wanted a road legal race car to drive, no contest IMO.

These are being bought as investment garage queens I suspect, people hopfeul to make a few quid rather than enjoy the drive.
Sorry, calling bullst on that one. I put 12k miles on mine. Granted, sample set of 1 and all that, but from other GT3 owners I know/knew they also get a fair old workout at 5k+ miles a year.

I sold a 996 GT3 for circa 51K in 2008 and that would be worth 120K now, maybe tomorrow even 234K

Utter bks marketplace for GT3's right now. Annoying as I want another but won't spunk 15K + overs just because some gimp in that London wants to add one to his collection.

Judging by your username, would it be fair to say your post carries a bit of bias?

I'd have to agree with this, the turbos always seems like a bit of a bargain compared to the GT2/3 when buying used
There are only a couple of hundred 997.1 GT3s on the UK roads though, and very few available to buy. In comparison the Turbo is a much, much more common car and high availability will always suppress any premium on price.

Still - the 997.1 GT3 is still about 50% more abundant than the 997.2 GT3. One of those appears to have just sold (admittedly in rarer still clubsport spec) for a tank of fuel short of 6 figures.

Only a GT3 owner would call a 911 turbo a barge hehe

Not sure what London has got to do with it. Besides, surely it is the Asian economy that has resulted in a fair few being exported?

Buy a 911 turbo, take off the turbos, 4WD gubbins, rear seats, some other miscellaneous interior trim bits and hey presto, a GT3... Sell bits on eBay too then have a 997 GT3-a-like for about £35k
