It was solely the fact Ford didn't produce an AWD Focus which saw me, as a 21 year old, depart from their brand - rather than buying a Mk1 Focus RS as I intended to.

I now own VW, Honda & Nissan products.

I have driven the most recent Focus ST and the Torque steer was so atrocious I literally laughed out loud, shocked that anyone would buy them vs an Impreza of the same value.
Yawn!!!

I don't really get people's problems with focus RSs, yeah they have a bit of torque steer, is it undriveable no, look at my user name I own the suppidely worst culprit and I'm from NE scotland where the roads are atrocious and its a brutally fast car from point to point and I've never felt like it was going to put me into a wall or hedge because of torque steer! Just keep your foot down and let it find the grip it's looking for it never wanders far!

If it scares you or you can't handle it then yes buy yourself a Nissan micra, honda Jazz or whatever other piece of poop you want and stop moaning about the RS.

Guess what if you didn't buy a mk1 or mk2 you probably won't want a mk3, so why even comment!

To all the development guys above: amazing job!! Best, most special car I have ever owned and I'll be keeping mine forever! Cheers!!!

It's not just about torque steer though is it, it's about being able to use all the power that it puts out. For off the line launching AWD will always be better than 2WD its nothing personal, its just physics.

For what its worth, imo the MK1 focus RS has been the only one so far worthy of the badge.

As someone who has owned an FRS MKII and is waiting on delivery of a Golf R. I have to say that how the car is driven doesn't bother me, I always felt the Focus struggled to put its power down off the line so the Golf will be nice in that respect.

Will the Golf be as sharp in the corners? I'm not so sure, didn't the engineers of the MKII state that the weight of the 4x4 system made it a no go from the off, would the RS have been such a good car with 4x4? Agin, I'm not sure.

Why do people want the FRS to be like a WRX or a Golf R or whatever AWD is their taste? Why don't they just bugger off and buy one of them and leave those who understand what the RS is all about to enjoy it's different character for what it is rather than what some internet troll thinks it should be?

because its 'people' that keep ford in business !

if the masses are favouring hot hatches that are AWD then as a business you'd probably want to give them what they want? its no good when you are a mass producer of cars appealing to purists because they only represent 3-5% (pure guess) of the purchasing population.

If ford were reading this forum it would be invaluable market research that they didn't have to pay for - and the results so far look like 'it needs to be £5k cheaper than the competition, just as quick and AWD'

this forum is for us all to exchange ideas, thoughts and opinions on all things motoring. it shouldn't be a shock that not everyone shares the same views.

you can't call people trolls for not having the same opinions as yourself.

Believe me plenty of people in the business read these forums and not just at Ford.

I'll admit it's very hard not giving the game away but all will be revealed next week.

As I've said previously I am somewhat biased in favour of the Mk1 Focus RS the Mk2 was a little too in your face in appearance and the ride was too compromised but maybe that's just me getting old!

One thing I will say (which is I think where AER was coming from above) is that any car that's going to be successful and an RS in particular needs to have a character of it's own and not just be a copy of someone else's successful product.

Maybe you should read my post again, I was defending the mk1 and torque steering fwd cars, not the new one. I'll wait until it's released and judge it on how well it drives myself! If it's fwd and drives well I will defend it but if it's not good I wont! Same goes for if its awd!

Have you driven either of the two current focus RSs? I've driven both in the dry neither has an issue putting their power down and pushing a car in the wet or snow isn't exactly the most sensible thing to do, is it!

Well if your right you've pretty much told us that Ford will stay with FWD to keep its character. I believe you, though I wish ford had found a way to use a chassis of the weight of the Golf so indeed they could have used AWD. I like character and AWD like the Integrale! m

Current Focus RS leaves my 330D in the dust... this car could be like mx-5 someday. wink
