Did Rowan perhaps just get his insurance renewal quote
...which, seriously, must be truly horrific, mustn't it (I hadn't realised he'd had 2 big shunts in it).
The forum i linked to, someone mentioned its an estimated £60k...which, seriously, must be truly horrific, mustn't it (I hadn't realised he'd had 2 big shunts in it).
its £10-15k to have a Mclaren F1 parked in the garage and another 20-40k if you want to use in the road.
Take into account his 2 crashes and its got to be around the upper end!

Of all the crash repair jobs in the world, this is one that I couldn't careless if it was crashed. The fact McLaren have repaired it to the highest standards means it is better than ever as far as I am concerned.
I'd like someone to put a finger on the actual negative point of it having being crashed previously.
Is it pure emotion rather than logic?
Formula 1 cars are crashed and repaired to a good enough standard to win championships of the toughest competition in the world.
It just doesn't stack that this wouldn't be at least as good as new.
Cheers

If repaired properly and the carbon fibre examined for cracks (as F1 cars are), then it would be better as a result of the crashes as it'll be a younger car. The only exception to that is if you value the original provenance, which I wouldn't have thought mattered on a car this young if Mclaren themselves did the repair.I'd like someone to put a finger on the actual negative point of it having being crashed previously.

I like his attitude. It's become so valuable that it's more like a museum piece than something to use and enjoy.
But then, it only has value once you sell it.What it has when you come to sell and insure it, is a price (or a Market Value if you're being picky).
Asking £8m and for sale with Taylor & Crawley according to this link:

I am still amazed at how much money Atkinson has made from Blackadder and Mr Bean...
I suspect as well there may be some shrewd investment going on, to be fair the Mr Bean thing was huge, Blackadder is a national treasure but I cant imagine it paid as well as Mr Bean, wonder if he gets a few quid every time its shown on UK Gold ? i.e. every day ?J4CKO said:

Mr Clark worked for McLaren in the mid-1990s when they launched the F1 and knows the car better than most.
He said: "If I had the choice of buying a 1,000 mile McLaren F1 that has been hidden away or Rowan's with 41,000 miles I would take Rowan's.
"It is pretty much a brand new car too after the work carried out by McLaren. I think I would have it myself if I didn't already own one."

The crashes weren't small shunts from what I have seen, from what I have see the car hit a tree hard enough to rip the engine and rear axle out of the car. This car is most likely a completely new car that shares a few components with the car it originally was. I look at it as a complete restoration instead of an accident repair.
I'm curious to see how the market views this.
According to the Classic and Sportscar scans linked to on page 1 of this thread, Atkinson insisted that the repairs be done to the original shell, and in the end they replaced the floor, but the majority of the original car is retained.I'm curious to see how the market views this.
http://www.mclarenlife.com/forums/mclaren-p1-f1/30... - about 2/3 the way down the thread.
So it's an original car, with well-documented repairs by the manufacturer to the same standards as when it was built - can't see the market worrying too much.
