The Aston will make you smile more than any of the others.

Follow your heart!

EDIT: Also in 10 Years time you will still want a Aston if you pick any of the others, so buy it now and enjoy the years of V8 motoring!

The correct answer is a 996 Turbo
I concur. Or a 996 C4S.

Another vote for a 996 Turbo. From your list the Aston, Cayman or Evora.

If you buy the Aston and intend an Aston main dealer to service it, check out the hourly rate, then how long they take to do the service. It hurts!

GT-R's are starting to fall into that price bracket. 997 c4s or just s are hard to ignore in the 20-30k price bracket.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage (2006)
+ What my heart tells me to buy

BMW M3 (2012)
- It's a 3-Series, underneath it all

Mercedes C63 (2012)
- It's a C-Class, underneath it all

If you choose anything other than the Aston you'll only ponder; what if. If you don't chose the BM or the MB you'll just think; well it's only another run of the mill motorway car that you see most days.

A TVR griffith or chimaera, the griffs have gathered momentum in the last few years and the chimaeras are now being ripped apart and tinkered with leaving fewer original cars, so the original well kept/restored ones should start to appreciate over the coming years.
Very reliable despite what the know it also will say, the noise and the drama every time you get in it will make your heart race, and £20000 on either would buy you one of the very best on the market with a warranty for 2-3 years.
Drive one and you'll see........
Having said that your heart says buy the Aston, as others have said if you don't buy what you list after when you can, you may regret it for years to come.

The Evora or AM V8V for me! However as I'm somewhat of a Lotus enthusiast, and I was lucky enough to drive an Evora for just over a fortnight, I'd have the Evora ... with a louder exhaust tongue out

As Zoobeef said, what about a Noble M12?

If I was in your position i'd get a Noble as others have suggested - out of 30k you'd still have enough for a cheap commuter.

Given the choice of cars I'd pick the Evora, as you say virtually depreciation-proof and (probably) would have the lowest running costs. Rare, stunning and lots of fun.

That said it sounds like Aston Martin V8 Vantage is the itch you need to scratch so just go and buy it already!

Nothing will tell you more than a test drive. Especially with the range you have there. It will be fun trying them all as well. I have been looking at the evora s and I wouldn't buy older than 2012 as there were something like 140 improvements to that model year over and above the 2011.

If you want to pose buy the aston - (does sound great though!)

Caymans look decent but not that "special" same with the M3 - (does have practicallity AND performance)

If you want to DRIVE it, it can only be the Evora. - be warry as a new Evora (or facelift) will be announced at Geneva, this will have more power and have differing external styling - may have an impact on used cars may not - they are afterall differing price points.

Aston is a special car to own, the Evora is a special car to drive and not nearly as 'Lotus' as you'd expect it to be. Fantastic car, and very nearly as special as the Aston due to its rare factor.

Both are an event to drive.

BMW and Merc aren't special enough.

Cayman is also a brilliant car, if a little common but probably the obvious choice. Not as special as the Vantage or Evora.

OP - If you don't go with your heart you have just bought another car rather than living a little, which I thought was the point of your post.

I turned 30 last weekend, and had promised myself a car. Originally to be a V8 Cerbera. Unfortunately (for the budget), another baby is about to come along. I've ended up with an E46 M3 (it is a second car). If my budget were higher, I too would have looked at V8 Vantages. Good luck with what you end with and don't forget to post pictures!
