I've never understood this attitude. Just because a car is rare doesn't make it good. Just because a car is common doesn't make it bad. Surely, you just buy the best car / car you want? Anything else is just vanity or posing of the worst sort.
While I understand your point it's more to do with the fact that I don't want to spend ££££ just to see a lot of others around. To me it makes the car feel less special. Stu
I've been a little gutted about the 348. When i got my Noble at the end of 2011 I was undecided between it and the 348. Got the Noble then at the end of 2013 I started to look for a 348 to go with it but noticed prices had gone up, just had my 30th birthday on the 12th Jan and feel that if I don't get one soon they will just get silly prices. They were £20k when I first looked!

Same here. Had my eye on a lovely one at £28k - just skimmed the classifieds before my post and realised they going north at a steady rate.I'd go with the Vantage, but I would say that I test drove one this afternoon.
£30k is the bottom of the market though, I started looking there but have found an extra £5k is really needed.
From the limited test I'd say they hide their speed well and coming from my current TVR very refined but a little disappointingly quiet, think fuse 22 removal is a must.
But it's just achingly pretty, and it might just be me but just saying 'shall we take the Aston' makes me smile.

Fuse 22 removal was the first thing I did. I doubt there are many Vantages that still have them in. I seem to remeber Top Gear reporting that it was the loudest standard production car when launched (though very well sound insulated!).£30k is the bottom of the market though, I started looking there but have found an extra £5k is really needed.

Have a look at the Audi S1. Same money: brand new. Awesome pocket rocket.
Given his reservations about the 3 series and C-class, I imagine "it's just a 15k city car underneath" (and perhaps just a Polo/Ibiza under that) might be an issue.Steamer said:
Two year ownership - 30ish K... Have you got a 'red itch' you want to scratch?
A bit old school, but looking better all the time IMO

I'd be tempted with an m3 CSL for £30k
And the secondBoth moving out of budget fast though
No, it's not just you re 'shall we take the Aston'
A mate bought the cheapest approved amv8 three years ago at £40ishk, he's out 30,000 miles on it, it's not on 68,000 miles and despite some nasty bills for wheels and suspension when he was driving through Devon potted country lanes on his commute every day it's been great.
Seems to be getting more reliable with age and his local dealer is trying to understand how it is possible that he has a v8 on the original clutch at 68k miles!!!
Definitely agree with those comments above re the merc and the BM, underneath I don't think they will feel special enough. I've just put a deposit down for a mustang, will have a V8 one day but not ready for the servicing costs just yet!

When there is a chance to get an Aston Martin - you get the Aston Martin.
Just go drive one, then buy it.

Im 32 now, and just beginning to plan something properly special in the next few years.
£30K budget = Aston all day long to me.
Magnus Walker recently said on Joe Rogans podcast (brilliant, by the way) that the 996 Turbo is the best Porsche bang-for-buck wise available anywhere. Magnus knows his sh*t. £30K would do the job, and it would be a fantastic thing if not Aston special.
Your other choices are all very appealing, so doubt you'll go far wrong. M3 is probably the 'right' answer, but again it'll never be the Aston.
At the end of the day, as a 30 year old who could realistically be in an Aston, you'd be mad to choose anything else imho.
I was in the same boat, promised myself a decent car before I was 30 as I've been boring lately due to my business, I'm still 29 (until April) but before Christmas I went and bought myself a TVR Tuscan! It was between that and a V8V, and I only considered the TVR because I love to play with my motors so the old reliability thing doesn't really bother me.
I still love the look of the Aston, but I know already I get attention for all the right reasons in the Tuscan, its bonkers and spits and bangs, I think I would get bored of being called a ponce in the Aston being in a dirty hands type job. I wasn't after anything practical either, not a fan of compromises so wasn't interested in a quick saloon or hatch.
I would have looked at 355's but have shot way out of budget, also found Lotus Esprit Turbos are not too bad and probably a half decent investment, but really retro and maybe not your thing!
