Lotus Carlton - The ultimate super saloon
Discussion
Had mine nearly 13 years & still special to drive every single time.
Had a friendly 'blast' with a V8 M3 when I took it out of hibernation last year (I courteously pulled in between overtakes to let him overtake me then followed him at ahum 70mph ) pulled up at lights onto the motorway, me going right, him going left, wound down windows & he says 'thats stunning, always loved those, lovely car'. Lights go green, thumbs up, we go our separate ways. Some cars have a snob/knob image but never had a bad remark about the LC.

Had a chat with an owner about one a couple of years back. Saying he could spin the wheels up to 70 on a wet day a true hero car!
I had a Saab that would do that, was more about crap tyres than outright power.Funny how 375 bhp barely raises an eyebrow now, it is a mid range Merc, a remapped 135i, still rather have the Carlton though.
Twenty yrs ago maybe but it was at the end of the day just a pumped up Vauxhall. I still liked them though.
My stage 1 sapphire cossie would also spin up its rears in the wet in third gear too and yes it was down to the horrendous Avon rubber it was wearing rather than ultimate power.

I saw a dark green not last week being driven in an oafish manner during M25 rush hour, J-reg I think.
Looked very tatty though all round and belched a fair bit of blue/black smoke when booted.
I was thinking that it's next pitstop looked like it was heading for a restoration or the scrap yard.
I know it was celebrated in it's heyday, but that particular example brought no desire to ever own one.
