Dealers mis quoted previous owners

Bought a car 2 months ago, trade only, signed on the dot. I wasn't shown the V5 but I've just got mine through today, shows 4 previous owners when listed as 3. Does the fact I bought as trade only mean I don't have a leg to stand on?

Surely you hpi checked the car before buying it which will have told you how many owners it had previously?

No, just checked autotrader using the listing trick to see whether it was a write off

A dealer cannot sell a car to a private buyer as a "trade" sale. Your consumer rights still apply. Whether there being 4 rather than 3 previous owners would be grounds to seek some form of restitution however, well that's another matter.

The dealer advertised that fine.

On the V5 it will have said 3 previous keepers. Plus the current registered keeper = 4 previous keepers when you get your V5.

A dealer/trader does not go on the V5 as an owner, so OP is correct.

And well like I said, I bought it from a trader, not an owner. The trader wasn't listed as an owner. So yes, given the differing responses here, it clearly is complicated
