NO,I think it is misleading.

WHY, well I ring up a dealer and I ask how many owners has the car had, he says 3 previous owners, so I say 4 then, the dealer then says nothing in response.

Says it all really...

It's 3 previous keepers and 1 current keeper which makes 4 and so the purchaser will be the 5th keeper. Just the way the dealer words it to make it look better than it is. If you don't check then caveat emptor!
I don't think a dealer can lie to you then just say 'caveat emptor' when you bust them.

I've got a 2 year old car, I've owned it from new. I don't see anyone listing cars like that as 0 previous keepers, do you ?

If you were to HPI your car, it will state 0 previous keepers, as will the V5. Whether you choose to advertise it as such is your call, but you would have both a V5 and an HPI check which state that to be the case.

What difference does 1 extra owner on a 10+ year old ZR make to the value anyway? Would you not have bought it if you knew it had 4 former keepers instead of 3?
