1974 Mk1 Escort 1300E in sunset red, circa 1986. Followed by several 3litre Capris.

Would love to have another. Gorgeous rare black 1300E on ebay last week. Might still be on there.

Mine was a 1963 Consul Cortina (19 KOO). 1200cc, slipping clutch, Escort RS alloys, remote gear change box, suede rear seat. Dark green with white stripe (like a negative of a Lotus Cortina). Had it for six months then got my first brand new car-a company car- which was an orange MkIII Cortina with brown velour interior. Hideous. Like to have a MkI again, but without the rot.

1999 Nissan Micra 1.0L. Would I want it in the state I got rid of it? No. Was a fantastic car for the 2 years I owned it until I could afford to insure something a little less st. Sadly due to my illness a month or so after buying it, it was forced to sit for about 3 months and rust begin to set in. Got gradually worse until the 2nd MOT I had to put it through where it required a new exhaust and new rear brakes due to corrosion. £350 in parts alone on a £600 car. Got £100 for it and was happy.

Coincidently I was actually considering picking another one up for a project car to do a Mongol Rally style trip across Europe. I misstreated mine for 2 years, driving the balls off of it and generally not maintaining it and it only let me down a total of 2 times over the 2 years I owned it (Not bad for a 13 year old car). Once due to me driving through flood water and filling up the air intake, Luckly the low compression engine didnt do any damage, I let it drain out for 30minutes then it started up again. The other time due to a flat battery during winter. Solid wee cars. Dat 16second 0-60 time though.

Exes are exes for a reason.

I wouldn't want to go back to my first car, no. Even though I have great memories of them, you forget the niggles etc. I wouldn't want to go back for that.

Hi Deke,

A mate of mine has a track prepared Magnette with a tuned MGB engine - it is lovely!
But as a former stock car racer it might not be for you!

Anyway, 1st car NO!
MkII Cortina 1500 pre X-flow piece of sh*t.
Only 9 years old at the time but rotten as a pear - used strips of metal from Duckhams 20/50 cans attached by pop-rivets and overlaid by filler to "restore" it!!!
But looking at prices for old Fords I could probably get 2 trazillion/gazillion for it now, if not 3!
Strange world!

1990 Ford Fiesta 1.1, Think I'd pass on that one. My 2nd car, a Clio is alive and well some 12 years after I got rid, I still see it on a semi regular basis.

2001 EJ9 Civic hatch.

I'd love to drive it again, and might do next year. I've still got it but it's been sat behind the house for the last 366 days.

1981 Talbot Horizon - wouldn't wish it on anyone. But it was wheels, it worked and it was mine, so at the time, I didn't really care. Went to the scrapyard in 1992, just after I sold it to my Dad...

1995 Vauxhall Corsa SRi 16v in Caribic blue and with red Vauxhall badges on the wheel trims so everyone knew you were piloting a rocket ship laugh, I'd have it back in a second, in fact I do keep an eye out for them but they're probably mostly dead now. The little car took so much abuse it was amazing, compared to everything my mates bought it was a flying machine, I managed to hit the limiter in 5th a couple of times - the dizzying speed of 118mph! Everyday I'd screw it through the gears, I pushed a fence strainer post a foot through the ground with only a slighly bent bumper bar, put it in a few hedges, got stuck in a river trying to rescue a mate, I think the high speed run through Keilder forest might have sealed its fate though, it was never the same again.

Mine was a 73 VW 1303 beetle. Funny how I can always remember this plate ATW 464L but not the present cars, I wonder if it still exists (was in good condition when I sold it).
Was on cross ply tyres with a sand bag in the front, absolutly deadly, taught me a lot about driving. Would I go back to driving it every day, not a chance!

1975 Simca 1100

No thanks

It did have some unexpected strengths: black vinyl seats may get hot in summer but a cigarette end will never put a hole in one.

Mini 850. For what I paid for it in 1992, definitely. There would be a grands worth of profit in it just selling it on.

I bought a scooter. Cried myself to sleep when I sold it. My current bike is a keeper to be handed down in my will in a good 70, 80 years time, to sell it would be like selling a best friend - and I haven't got my first car yet; but I know that too is going down the family.
