Well, that is what I thought as well, until I tried it in sport mode with the valve closed.... The valve was then fully opened at 3000rpm! Personally I prefer the set up, it allows me to enjoy the noise without engaging the stiffer suspension ( well still fairly comfortable - believe it or not, a GTS in Sport mode is still more comfortable than a mini countryman SD.
I don't understand the role of a Mini Countryman so don't get me going!

Thanks re the FD kit. I spoke with FD and they said it didn't do that but I am glad that they are wrong!!

Exactly, he will be wanting a man with a red flag to walk in front of it next smile
I had never had a paddle shift car before and I was worried that I would miss the manual box but having spent eight months using the MC shift gear box there is absolutely no way that I would swap it for a manual.

Go for it, they are brilliant but do your homework because there are lots of different options and you will seldom find two cars with the same spec.
Gear boxes:
MC Shift- Compared to the full auto it has shorter gearing so is quicker but less economical, gear changes are faster but more abrupt, sounds better due to blips on the down changes(some full autos do this too) and the fact that the exhaust valve is open all the time in sports mode. I love the drama and speed of the full throttle gear changes but it does take some practice to be smooth with it in traffic.
Suspension:
There are three options-
Standard is a good compromise between comfort and handling.
Skyhook firms up the suspension in sport mode so gives it more of a split personality.
MC Handling pack, this is lower, has stiffer anti roll bars, uprated springs, uprated shocks and a recalibrated stability control system, it is almost identical to the stradale set up. I have this on my car and it is very good, the ride is still very comfortable but it rolls far less and is more confidence inspiring on a twisty back road, the lower ride height also looks better and has not caused me any ground clearance issues.
Carbon packs:
There are several different carbon fibre packs for the interior including trims, switch panels, gear shift paddles and even a carbon steering wheel. For the exterior their are carbon door handles, mirrors and an aero kit including a rear spoiler and front winglets. My car has some of the interior packs and all the exterior, it does look great but the exterior carbon parts can suffer from stone chips.
Then there are different wheels, roof linings, leather, stitching, brake calipers, disks etc.
The list goes on and on so I would look at plenty of cars to see what options you like.
Good luck with your search, I am sure that you will not regret itsmile
Thankyou!

Initial search is underway via PH classifieds to get a feel for what's out there.

I'd value any insights anyone has as to who are the reputable dealers to purchase from (I would consider a private purchase, but only after a top drawer PPI), who to service through and whom to use for a PPI; I'm based in the Midlands.

Thanks in advance.

Used to see one on Chiswick high street which perpetually had a roof rack/ box fitted.

Was always parked outside the same beautiful little bar, so can only guess it belonged to the owner/ gaffer who presumably used it to lug (not huge amounts!) of stuff around in.

Was always dirty (although looked to be well cared for otherwise), so had extra respect for the fact it was being used.

Utterly gorgeous thing in the metal, although surprisingly large. Carried off the size well, and certainly seemed to be a properly spacious GT.

Main thing was the sound- not sure if it was a stock exhaust because it was Ferrari loud. The missus wasn't overly enamoured til she heard it start up, at which point she started 'oohing' and 'aahing'. Was nice to see the penny drop after boring her about how special this relatively understated car was.

A great choice OP. Im sadly more the 3200 price point Maser-wise. Would choose the GranTurismo over many objectively 'better' cars, mainly due to the noise and sheer class of the thing.

You should consider a private purchase... as I think, most of the guys who buy GT's are enthusiasts and look after them. I bought mine privately... as soon as I saw the carpetted garage, framed GT prints on the wall, Autoglym cabinet... and the fact he didn't want to take it for a test drive in the rain... I knew it would be ok...
Best of luck with it...

Bought a GT (not GT S) April 2014 (08 plate) - best thing i have ever purchased absolutely love driving my car and do so at every opportunity!

Only has 31k on the clock even after i have done 10k in last year - had x1 issue with electronics failure but fully warranted and picked up fixed and returned at no cost by garage...

Considering upgrade if i get the right price for mine.....

The sound i have been told by almost everyone is the best sound they have ever heard on a car and whilst my misses doesnt like the sound what does she know!

Dont think can be without a GT now!

If you can be patient, I'd put every feeler out that you're looking to buy, and wait for a private car where the owner has been bid in the balls ( preferably a car that still has a bit of OEM or Extended OEM warranty left). The spread on these cars from trade to retail is astronomic. For example, I bought my 4.5 year old 36K mile MC shift privately at £500 over the sellers best trade bid ( from a Maserati dealer).I put 7000 miles on it in 9 months, advertised it on SportsMaserati.co.uk, and sold it back into the trade for 4K more than I bought it for. The dealer sold it for significantly more still, within two weeks. You do have to be ready to go, and pick something easily re-sellable, but it can be done. Only to add, they are very colour and spec sensitive in the market.
Try Nuvola London,Nareman is a lovely guy, and has a great reputation.

Is there a fuse you can pull out so that the exhaust flaps are permanently open, a la Aston Fuse 22?

On a MC-shift,sport mode means they are permanently open, which also means it's quite possibly the best sounding allrounder on the road.

Opens at full throttle at 3K revs I believe. Can be changed by a Formula Dynamics mod I believe. (amongst others).
