This time last year petrol was around $4/gal. Today it is around $1.87/gal. It's nice to see the price of oil having a significant impact on the price at the pump. It makes my 17mpg feel easier to swallow.

US gallon, not gallon. As with so much else, Merkins managed to fk up a gallon, which is 4.546 litres, not 3.7-odd litres as they mistakenly presume.

You can do all the conversions you want but the US gallon would have to be 0.1 of the UK to be comparable in cost wink

I grew up in Saddleworth outside of Manchester but moved to New Jersey in 2004. When I got my first job in 2002 I was living in Birmingham but working in Altrincham. Doing 160 miles a day hurt when the price of diesel was so high. When I moved to the US the cost of "gas" was below $2/(US)gal and I was amazed that, as oil prices changed, there was a significant change in the price of gas. The best part is that in NJ there is an attendant pumping for you so you do not even leave the car.

It's not all cheap living out here. My property tax is over 3% of purchase price per year. I would have to do a lot of driving to make up for that.
