I've recently bought a used car which has at some point, been de-badged.

It's a mercedes, and the bootlid still has the three pointed star, but the actual model designation and the wording on the other side (kompressor i think) are missing. I assume this was done at birth as an option, especially seeing as it's a small engine model.

Anyway, the bootlid looks a bit bare with nothing on, so i'd like to re-badge.

Im just after experiances. Is it as simple as buying on ebay, pull the adhesive off the back and stick on? And does anyone have tips on getting it right, other than looking at pictures and having a good guess as to the location?

And finally, if anyone knows of any places cheaper than ebay for this type of product, that'd be obliged, as they're a bit pricey to start with.

Try merc themselves - you'd be surprised a)how cheap things like badges can be straight from the manufacturer and b)just how much of a mark up some people stick on things like this on e-bay.

As for fitting - do your homework to see where they should be positioned, clean the surface with panel wipe or brake cleaner to remove any dirt etc. Use masking tape to create a straight line to help you line up the badges and go for it - there really is no trick to it - just apply using a bit of preparation and planning and common sense.

if you buy the proper badges the often have the backing paper shaped to line up with the boot edges

you can run some 1" tape along the edge to give you a guide , then yes just peel and stick on

I'd agree with the advice on ebay purchases. My experience of some of the badges etc sold on there is that they are utter crap, usually cheap plastic, rubbish plating, a poor fit and not worth it.

If Merc prices frighten you I'd look at specialist breakers or s/h parts dealers, there's plenty of them for Mercs.

The last time I bought some self adhesive E63/AMG badges for my E220 CDi from my Mercedes dealership, they were cheap as chips. They even helped me with positioning.

Guessing that's a pisstake, or do I need a whoosh parrot wink

I second checking the position, some monkey put the badge back on my 520 before I bought it, but had put it half way up the boot lid, rather than at the bottom.
