Any Electicians out there with good knowledge of these thngs?? I have a VX220 which has an AI606 alarm - good piece of kit by all accounts and works well. BUT every now and then it goes off without cause . Just changed jobs and working away and so dont want to drive the neighbours to burn the car ....can i simply cut the feed wires to the siren and dispose of it ?? I dont want the noise but like the immobilizer and the flasshers warning . Just want to be 100 % sure it wont be going off whilst I am away. (yes I know its self powered and will keep going a while - notheing that a bucket of water wont fix) what I'm worried about is if I remove it and the car becomes immobilised simply because its been tampered?

Cheers Steve

Are you thinking about disconnecting it and reconnecting the siren later? If you don't care about the siren, you can use an old trick burglars use on house alarms: Punch a hole in the siren box and fill it with expanding foam. That should mute the decibels down to a quiet muffle.

Seems a shame to lose the extra security feature. Maybe there's a vibration sensor somewhere that could be removed or decreased in sensitivity.

You could at least call an auto electrician, describe the symptoms and see what they say.

Can you just switch the alarm off?

This might help: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=40791

yes cheers
seems the fitment I have is customised to be simple - no LED and no ultrasonics ...but valet mode seems not to work either (press both fob buttons after switching on ignition and hold for 3 secs) .. bit of a mystery really

hence my question as I want a bullet- proof way of it not going off and seems to me that removing the noise source would be optimal

OK - good news - It worked now have fully functioning alarm without any noise ...I know I know its lost a lot of the deterrent quality but it allows me to sleep at night when away....
for those that want to know ...disarm on the key fob remove siren from mounting cradle...take siren rear cover off - just peel back the 4 plastic clips moulded into the body....peer inside the cover and there is a micro plug at the end of the wire which goes through the rear cover ...simply pull it off the printed circuit board...no damage its just a connector with no retention clips.... either remove the siren or tape it up and reassemble ...I did this so that it can be put back in 15 mins ...simples
