you lot posting Alfa 164s aren't helping my love for them either!! There was a black one on ebay recently and it looked gorgeous. Shame there aren't more around frown
Have a go in a 3-litre. Stunning engine - one of the all time greats. But drive the car and you'll soon find it won't accelerate in a straight line (torque steer) and won't brake in a straight line (poor anti-lock system).

Having said that, the 2-litre twin-spark always seemed a decent car for the money.

Yes the concept of an Italian car, based on another Italian car, built by Italians using an engine built by other Italians and assembled by other Italians seems a recipe for disaster, but despite the awkward shape, the undersized wheels and tyres, the shopping trolley looks....it's a pretty good car and the motor was reputed to be a far better one than the 308 Ferrari motor it was based on. I have a 52000 miles version and the only thing that doesn't work is the forward movement on the electric seats. I recently had an engineer come to do a report on the car for a prospective buyer and he agreed the car was in excellent condition....though oddly, and rather rudely...I never heard from either again. The car is quicker than you would imagine....by a fair margin, and the spec is enormous considering the era.
I know a reputable dealer is planning a rather costly restoration (concours) of one soon.....so maybe they know something I or we don't?

Not sure, may be caught up in the unending escalating of classic car prices but I do keep a check on prices and not much going I'd say (not that I know anything); a rather lovely looking one albeit needing belts/service went through a French auction house last year with just 83,500km for 11,600 Euro (estimate was 15-20,000). Not that much more than I paid for mine in 2005.

Not quite true.

All series 1 cars (about 2/3 of production) had their engines built at Maranello. Some, not all, of the remaining S2 cars had their engines assembled by Ducati, due to capacity issues, but all components were still made by Ferrari's engine plant at Maranello.

The crank was a Ferrari design, with specification input by Lancia.

It's entirely a Ferrari engine, a F105L to be precise, the F105 being the 308qv engine. The L obviously signifying the Lancia usage.
Interesting, and thanks for that. I was always told that Lancia specified the different crankshaft to make the engine more of a "cruiser" and that they were all assembled by Ducati. A lot of rumours fly about!

I still wonder how Ducati got involved at all though. They wouldn't seem like an obvious choice to me.

Interesting.....I had mine up at £11000 with 82000 kms and also needing belt/service but otherwise in really great shape with no rust and runs sweet.

I've always loved the idea that these got made, but if I was looking for a Thema I'd try to find a Turbo - basically the same car with a Delta Integrale engine. laugh

Many years back I worked for a law firm in London. When I worked nights I was allowed to use the firms car park, usually used by senior equity partners during the day.

One evening the security guard let me in. As I drove in I saw it. Wow.

That he said? It's only a fking Lancia!! I told him to fetch the keys. Two mins later he was back with the keys and opened the car for me. I popped the bonnet, opened it and asked him to check what was under the bonnetlaugh. That ain't no ordinary Lancia I laughed.
