Very conflicted and having sleepless nights, trying to decide between two very different cars, the new Range Rover SDV8 or Bentley GT speed 6. Have found the two cars but just can't make up my mind which to go for. My head says Range Rover, very practical, very comfortable, ticks all the boxes and a surprisingly good drive. Great for lugging the family around in, runs to the dump, trips away with the lads to Golf, luggage to and from the airport etc etc etc.

The heart says Bentley though, pure power, over two tons of V12 and 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and an interior that looks like my lounge, some practical aspects, it has a massive boot, not great for anything other than short runs for passengers though and fuel consumption is verging on comical, about 10mpg around town, this though does not bother me to much.

So help, do I go head or heart on the below cars

You should go for the range rover. Atleast then you won't be confused about W's and V's.

How often would it be full of family and associated clobber? If it's fairly infrequent, then get the Bentley and rent something bigger as and when required.

I do enjoy driving the bentleys but day to day I would want the Range Rover.

But it depends on your life, I need a tow car.

Can't you combine the two and buy something with nice handling and a charasmatic engine, but similar space and practicality to the Range Rover (provided you don't need the off-road ability of course). An E Class AMG estate maybe, or an M5? RS6 perhaps?

A Panamera Turbo S would be a good hybrid of the two requirements if you could live with the looks (although I could quite understand if you can't).

Panamera GTS was on the short list, great car, great engine, practical, well, more so than the bentley, just can't get with the looks though. Also tired of big German barges, had the 5 in Alpina, had the merc in CL amg loved them but at the time don't want to go back there

What was it about the big barges that you didn't like? The handling's going to be a hell of a lot more big, lazy and fat in a Range Rover than in a CL AMG!

If the bentley isn't a "big german barge" then really I don't know what is...

XJR or Quattroporte?

Of the two I'd maybe go for the Bentley though. I do like Range Rovers, but wouldn't want to drive a high vehicle as my only car. I like acceleration and cornering.

It is an itch I want to scratch, have an old 07 Range at present, I do love it, so damn practical for everything, just want a bit of power and passion driving again. Was going to keep the Range Rover and get a 599, cost of keeping both though would have been very silly so discounted that now

Jeez, I was loosing sleep over employment...I hope i get to a stage in life when I can loose sleep over which new vehicle to buy

Anyway, I'm kidding, don't mind me!

I guess with the range rover you can green-lane...but then, a rally driver didnt do to bad in a bentley so that point is disproven...

I would buy neither, instead go for an M5 or something

Maserati Grantourismo? It's a proper four seater with a decent boot. Looks better than the Bentley too. smile
