So do your opinions come from having actually driven all three on the road.
Everybody to their own opinion but come on mate:
"Back in the real world, these are heavy, tech-laden monsters that wouldn't serve up much enjoyment at all."
Heavy? they would be of no enjoyment??
Course not. Everybody to their own opinion but come on mate:

Look up their weights - very heavy cars.
Have you driven anything with 300+hp/ton that seemed like it could do with more power on our roads? I don't take much enjoyment out of using an engine's mid-range (because I like peaky power delivery) so wouldn't take much satisfaction from a power plant that would never get into its stride and stretch its legs.
I don't know why it is such heresy to say that I don't find hypercars remotely interesting (in terms of actually driving one rather than being impressed by the tech and stats). There are plenty of other types of cars that I find impressive but have no interest in owning - fast diesels, fast Audi estates, Caterhams, etc.
The news bit is he's the 1st to own all 3 (in the UK? whole planet?) work firewall is venomous!
Things I've gleaned from the thread thus far:
£28M = a small fortune (WTF?)
It's a shrewd investment if he doesn't drive them (WTF?)
It's not news (maybe not for a daily rag) but this is PISTONHEADS right?
It's what we do, It's why we're here. You don't lust after a 320D! You live for the moments when the V8 burbles to life on start up! For the pops on over run! For applying a dab of Oppo!
Come on peeps! You've watched CH drift them and when a guy is lucky enough / wise enough / mad enough to be able to buy all 3 it's met with derision?
Mumsnet is that way ===>

I can understand that you might not find the prospect of driving one interesting, whereas I find the prospect of driving one just about as interesting as anything I can imagine. But who knows whether your or my opinion might change if we were to actually have that opportunity? I would love to find out.

1490kg kerbweight of P1 is not "very heavy". 3 or so tons for some of the SUVs is a very heavy car.Look up their weights - very heavy cars.

You're complaining about not being able to use the whole power range of the car - but (apart from delivery) why do you need that? Surely it's the delivery, and if you haven't driven the cars then it is a bit difficult to comment on that in regards to these cars? I'm not saying you should like them, but it seems a bit silly to say you don't like a car because you can't put it to 9000rpm. Remember the owner also uses them on track too, so it's not just about road driving.

What a top bloke, raising £20,000 from the public's pocket for charity for a chance to be near to his nearly-three million pounds worth of sports cars!
It reminds me a bit of all those celebrities producing a God-awful song for the public to buy so that money could be given to charity Good on the guy.
Three amazing cars that are more than likely going to appreciate. What a great way to spend some money and maybe earn some in the long run from it.
I'd have the P1 in the midnight purple colour as tested by Chris Harris in Dubai (iirc).
However, now having seen Chris driving the La Ferrari, I went from not being a fan (having seen crap videos of one revving up in monaco) to thinking it sounds and looks amazing.
The 918 was never on my radar as anything other than "cool tech" till I past one sitting at the side of the road in Bridge of Allan in central Scotland. It was parked with a Qashqai (spl?!) and a mk5 golf either side. It was stunning in the flesh.
I can't work out why everyone is trying to hand out so much judgment on his earnings, his long term financial outlook and how he spends his money and so on. Such a wide variety of posts that tend to highlight everyone's OWN personal issues, not this guys.

Certainly a lot more than someone who bangs on about charity while using dubious tax avoidance practices, that's for sure.
