I think my love of cars is waning. None of these hypercars do anything for me.
Also, did this guy ask the Mail to run the story on him? Or did the paper nab his photos from somewhere?
I agree and I have loved all the articles and footage these cars have received but they are utterly bonkers for use on the road. Also, did this guy ask the Mail to run the story on him? Or did the paper nab his photos from somewhere?
Ok, If I had the money I would probably do the same but I would also spend on cars that I could really enjoy on the road, cars of my youth (Cosworths, RS2000 etc).
Still, Im sure his collection covers all bases.

Different strokes for different folks. Lots of people, and I am one of them, are car enthusiasts but would not buy any of these 3 cars even if they had infinite money.
I don't see the point in a car that is impossible to rev out in any gear on the road. Nor do I see the point in a 1800kg "sports car" that is as wide as a house and has AWD. If I lived somewhere with huge roads and no speed limits, I would buy a 918, but I don't. I live in a country with very low speed limits and tiny, pothole-covered roads.
I can well imagine spending millions of pounds on cars, but I don't think I would want a hypercar even if they cost about 1/10 of what they do. I would rather have a 991 S than a 918 because it would be more fun to drive, and I would rather have a Singer than all 3 of these cars put together.
Journos rave about hypercars because they are obsessed with numbers and drive on closed roads. Back in the real world, these are heavy, tech-laden monsters that wouldn't serve up much enjoyment at all.

How much do you think these 3 cars will be worth in 2,5, 10 years time? I doubt he will be poor ..

I still don't get it.
1 utterly undriveable hypercar would be silly. 3 is literally insane. It's all just ego-stroking nonsense.
This is awesome from Paul and I have absolutely no shame in saying I'd do exactly the same in his position. And if this (plus his awesome sounding fleet is possible from "a fairly limited fortune" of £28m it really puts into perspective the hyper rich in the £100m+ club.1 utterly undriveable hypercar would be silly. 3 is literally insane. It's all just ego-stroking nonsense.

It is different strokes for different folks, which is why saying its "Ego stroking nonsense" is narrow minded. He may well use all the cars potential on the roads, he might make a couple of trips a year to the Nurburgring and ring the cars out on the Autobahn.
The entire thread has lots of cynicism, very British to be fair
It does kind of surprise me that articles like this make it to the mainstream news. I can understand it being an article on PistonHeads (as something that would interest other car enthusiasts), but it's weird that it's from the Telegraph. Is that news now? About how a wealthy individual has spent £3 million on cars?

I think it's a sad reflection on PistonHeads when a guy like this gets abuse for buying three amazing cars. I mean we've got people going through his financial records to see if he can really afford it, and people complaining about social inequality? It's quite sad really.
He obviously should have bought a MX5, a m135i and some form of st fast estate!

Fair cop - maybe a bit harsh, but I would maintain that most of the enjoyment in these cars would be in the pride of ownership rather than actually driving them. As I say, they are pretty much unusable in this country.I think it's a sad reflection on PistonHeads when a guy like this gets abuse for buying three amazing cars. I suppose I get hung up on what I could do with £1m that isn't an AWD, heavy, wide, automatic car that only really shows its party tricks at unachievable speeds (except on tracks and the Autobahn (maybe)).
You could get someone to take your favourite chassis, drop in your favourite engine, drop in your favourite 'box with ratios that you select, etc etc. That would genuinely make for an unsurpassable driving experience, but it wouldn't impress the neighbours as much

By the way, which hypercar do you own/drive to be able to know that they won't be fun on the road? Having been in numerous supercars in the public, there's no better feeling than seeing everyone's reaction to you. Kids get excited, people compliment your car etc.
