The engine is miles away from boring.

I have the Mountune stage 1 and the engine is just brilliant. The torque at the bottom and mid range is unbelievable for a small hatch, torque to weight ratio is higher than most 2L tdi's. The top end is just as good, it will rev all the way to 6500rpm before power tails off and you get a small vtec like kick from 5-6K rpm.

I only second the engine to the handling of the car. smile
But in standard form it is a little bit boring - and is it really transformed so much by the MP215 kit? As standard it's fast but it just isn't that exciting for me. I will admit that coming to this from an S2000 isn't helping matters. 1st and 2nd gears are torque limited, and I think it's really noticeable. I find the car noticeably slower in those gears, and as soon as you get into 3rd gear with the turbo spooled up things get a lot more interesting. The Renault F4R (Clio 172/182 engine) is much, much better with no modifications. But it only had to meet EU2, instead of EU5. Modern times eh.
In standard form I think the car was good, whether or not I'd prefer to go for a blast in one over a Clio 182 with the cup chassis... I don't know, it's a hard one but overall the ST is quicker and better handling as standard. The MP215 really does make a difference, in particular the torque. As comparing to an S2000 I can't comment as I've never driven one but it's common knowledge they are a hard edged drivers car that has a lot of rewards to give when you are on the limit.

I never really go flat out in 1st in any car, but in 2nd from just under 2000rpm it starts to pull very well. Keep the traction control off all the time becuase you don't need it, I think that effecst the acceleration more than the limited boost in 1st and 2nd.

I'd love to drive the Stage 2 Revo set up as per the article.

More power/torque isn't what the ST needs IMO. If I could have anything to boost the enjoyment of the car it would be a more natural and characterful engine note. The symposer is good, but you can tell it's somewhat artificial. The steering feels a bit lifeless until you are really shifting along a good road. If there was any way that could be improved, I would buy that upgrade!

It's not an artificial symposer, granted it isn't "natural" to have a symposer at all, but the noise being funnelled into the cabin is 100% engine noise. Unlike the latest RS clio which uses it's speakers I think? confused

Having said that, I do agree, unplug the symposer and it's all a bit meh, also the exhaust note is underwhelming. But I still absolutely love the car.

It's interesting to read this comment as I am now a little over 1 month and 1,500 miles in Fiesta ST ownership having previously owned a 182 (with cup packs). My 182 was, until the Fiesta, the best all round car I have owned. Now I'm starting to be won over by the Fiesta as I see it as very much the "new car" version of the 182.

Up until December I was driving the Clio 200 turbo and that was nothing like the 182 and, frankly, it was nowhere near as good as the Fiesta. It was not a bad car but the Fiesta pretty much outdoes it in every important area (i.e. economy, price, gearbox etc).

My Fiesta is currently standard though and I have also noticed how it feels a little "strained" in 1st and 2nd gears. That's not to say it doesn't feel quick because it does but, essentially, you do feel it is being held back a little at first.

I am also contemplating the MP215 upgrade as it seems to be a bit of a no brainer really. This Revo Fiesta sounds fantastic though but I value my warranty too much to go for it sadly.

I would take a Revo 280 one as it should be fun even if somewhat impractical when it gets a bit slippery spin

"The 280hp Stage 3 car with a limited-slip diff and bigger brakes should be amazing."

How do these powerfully built FWD cars put all that power down?!

TX.
its not as bad as people make out, a well sorted suspension helps a lot, FWD have a bad rep because a couple of firms put powerful engines in st chassis, (saab and Vauxhall) and Clarkson said fwd can only take 300hp max about 15 years ago
clap

This current Fiesta ST is a brilliant return to form for Ford.

Great little car judging by the reviews etc. Surprisingly quick too. I was blasting down a few roads recently and noticed one catching my S2000 up. I'll have to try to get a test drive!

£599 for 15 bhp, seemed expensive to me.

If you're anywhere near Essex, go to Mountune themselves to get it done. My mate did and they let him have a poke around some of the other lovely machines they have there biggrin

I'm considering one of these as my next daily. If you can have one at 230-240 bhp and still get 40 mpg over a tank that would be ideal.

Really need to get behind the wheel of one.

I've no doubt somewhere does more for less - just noticed the ad as being current to thread and showing the popularity of car

No doubt. Out of warranty I'd look at other options. I just remember the days when £300 got an extra 50 bhp.

Bump to ask people what remap they are using on their st.

I currently have mp215, its quick but feels a bit lacking sometimes, i hear good things about cp2, but how much quicker does it actually feel? Does it feel a bit mental or still overly competent?

The most noticeable difference is 1st and 2nd have less torque limiting. On a dry day the CP2 just flys in 2nd. Slightly better torque on 3rd and above. I really like the CP2 but have gone back to my MP215 map for the winter.

So basically the main thing is second gear opens up? Is it a lot quicker in that gear as it definately feels restrained currently.

And third gear and up just has a bit more shove, or a lot more shove? I like to accelerate w.o.t in third to motorway speeds, is it a lot quicker than mp215 in doing this?

Trying to get a good idea as i will be voiding warranty to do it.

This is a tough one. CP2 has about 230bhp with supporting mods vs 215 on Mountune. You'll notice 2nd every time. You won't be able to use WOT unless its dry and you are going in a straight line otherwise it will spin up. That's a + for mountune, the limiting in 2nd means its useable in any weather bar snow/extreme cold.

On CP2 3rd is a bit quicker (more so higher rpm) but not a big difference like 2nd I'd say. Still handy for motorway work though. For 3rd and above though you might start hitting the limits of the stock cooler too. I've yet to run it in warm/hot summer weather but I would not be surprised if it pulls the power back a bit. I know the old Focus ST I had did this once remapped.

As for warrenty, you do know you can flash back to MP215 anytime right? A bit naughty but I doubt Ford would notice unless they looked carefully.

Personally I think it was worth £££ but mines a 2013 and out of warrenty. If you plan to add a cooler later then more so. In my case though I bought it purely for 2nd as I do mainly local driving. 2nd was driving me nuts after coming from an FN2 type R. The type R would have eaten it alive before CP2 went on and its heavier with the same ish bhp.

  • EDIT just to add there is £0 resale value on the CP maps. The license is locked to the car VIN so if you sell the car the map needs to go with it.

Not sure, I know it shows the current ECU map version but no idea if it shows any history or last update stamp or the like. Give Collins Performance a ring or email they would probably know.
