It does sound very much like bodywork repairs. I wouldn't accept a brand new car that has just had bodywork repairs, paintwork, etc. Get them to sign something that states that the car has had no bodywork repairs and is finished in factory paintwork. If they are unwilling to do this, then walk away.
Because, of course, no new car that isn't delayed on delivery has seen a spraygun.

Them not giving you car is bad form in my book. Back in 2007 I bought a 107 and it was delivered to the wrong compound. Without any prompting from me a brand new Peugeot Partner HDI was provided to me with a full tank of fuel for the ten days it took.

The car only cost £6200.

If it had been, then his UK delivery would have been MUCH later if it hadn't had a little lie-down.

I would guess, as is the norm with franchised dealerships now, that a lot is made of and potentially a big bonus is riding on the feedback received on the post-handover CSI questionnaire, usually via email.
.
Certainly for BMW. You get an email asking you to score the dealership on a number of issues on a scale of 1 to 5 where 1 is bad and 5 is good. Only a score of 5 is acceptable.

If you are happy to continue with the order and delivery is expected to be mid February , is it worth haggling for a 1 March delivery and a 15 plate rather than a 64?
The car has been registered, and I have received the V5; just no car yet....

Erm. The dealer does that, not the factory. Right?

Sounds like you are being told some whoppers.

So the dealer has registered a car that they haven't received yet? That seems a bit odd.

Try Ford Customer Service - they may be able to shed more light on things.

I worked for Dagenham Motors a few years ago as a salesman. Very occasionally Ford would pull a batch of cars from the delivery queue to do a quality control check on them. This would generally delay the cars by 2-3 weeks. Nothing we could do about it and it used to ps off customers (and us) every time it happened. We would generally sort something out for the customer though to make sure they weren't too unhappy with the situation.

I would have a word with your supplying dealer. No matter how much they say they can't, there is always something they can do to help you!

Check the contract, there will be a clause telling you your rights if the car is delayed, normally they will be offer you a loan car until yours is delivered or if the car is delayed more than 30 days from date of delivery, you can give them written notice and ask for the the deposit back then walk away.

Why have you started paying for something you haven't received yet, surely you sign the finance agreements when the car has been delivered and you've had a chance to look round it and make sure it is what you ordered.

We signed the finance deal as were told that this is typically done the day before car acquisition, as it takes a day for processing to be complete prior to being able to drive away.

They have now offered us a car to drive in the interim, however they say my partner will not be insured to drive it, as their insurance only covers UK licences, (not EU), hence it may only be driven by me. I find this peculiar as they were willing to sell her a car on her licence, and the car comes with driveway insurance. I'm headed into the dealership to speak with them now.

So I think we had a reasonable outcome.

Our car has apparently been delayed due to a manufacturing defect with the dashboard of recent Fiesta ST's, therefore apparently all Fiesta ST's entering the country are stopped at Dagenham to be repaired/reworked. They do not know how long it will take, Ford simply issued a noticed saying that it could be upto three weeks, (from last Friday).

The dealership did offer a car, however my partner was unable to drive it because the dealerships insurance did not cover EU licences. We subsequently came to an arrangement where we would purchase our own temporary insurance on this car, and they would cover the cost in fuel vouchers.

Thanks to all for your previous suggestions.

Glad you've had a result.

I'd still be giving that car a very good inspection once it arrives....

Sir,
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, are you wasting your time/money in buying a brand new car. Are there absolutely no nearly new/dealer mileage cars out there that will save you a chunk of money. You are under the misapprehension that this car, (when it eventually turns up), is going to be so perfect and unused. It ain't. You are purchasing a car that has been driven by at least 30 different people who don't give a s**t about the end user, and your'e paying top money for the privilege!!!!!!
Out there in the big wide world are any number of used vehicles that have been loved/cherished just waiting for someone with a bit of nous/intelligence to DO THEIR RESEARCH and find it. It means that you have to do some work, but, as usual, you've taken the lazy man's way out and wandered into a dealership WITHOUT finding out the alternatives.
I despair.

If the car has been registered then the warranty clock may have already started ticking. You need a letter on delivery stating that the warranty begins on the date of delivery.

There's always one person who has no idea what is going on in the real world isn't there?

Used cars don't qualify for manufacturer's incentives which means that they are often more expensive. Witness BMW M5s etc.

If you want a used car you go buy one, I don't think anyone else cares...
