I see a theme here.

1) Take old car
2) Add enough power to completely overwhelm old chassis
3) Imagine it'll be awesome
4) Either be killed, or make the suspension feel anodyne and detached
5) Never use the power
6) Make less interesting noises than original engine working hard would have
7) Buy 'real world fast' diesel AWD Audi
8) Lose interest in cars
The American's do it all the time.. never seem to lose interest in cars though wink

I'd rather get the bus than a modern awd Audi.

I'd love a Delorean DMC12, but with a drivetrain to match the looks and a more appropriate level of build quality for an expensive car.
Top call, hows about a late NSX powertrain in one (or a bit too revy?)
Tough one, depends on what sort of character you want for the car. With the engine hanging out the back like that maybe it's best not to go down the route of making it too hardcore biggrin

TO be honest compared to the PRV6 even a Ford Duratec V6 would be a huge upgrade! Apparently it only weighs 1250KG or so (from wikipedia so make of that what you will) so huge power is probably not required.
ok, i'll meet you in the middle, hows about a Nobel V6 turbo in it, say about 300 ponies ish?

Enough poke and plenty of torque to waft about on
I'll leave you to Google but there is an LS1 powered DeLorean. That's cool. A Lotus V8 one, and recently a Skyline engined car with larger (although factory identical) set of wheels. Plenty done in the last 34-ish years wink

I'd like a modernised Imp.
Big horsepower not required, just enough to keep it interesting : say 120 bhp?

R1 engine or Hayabusa would be great.

No styling clues taken from the original which for me was one of the best looking cars produced by the French

It doesn't have to be that extreme.

Most older cars could be improved enormously with better ignition systems an fuel management, better coolant systems, more powerful brakes and a bit more power. That shouldn't destroy the character of the car in less you're one of these people who believe that cars being unreliable can be misrepresented as character.

Shelby Cobra surely.

Though I think the modern equivalent is an LSx-engined Mx-5.

My dad once said there's nothing wrong with the Imp that another 100 bhp wouldn't cure. That's pretty close.

That's been done really. Most decent replicas have better chassis, engines, brakes and gearboxes than originals.

I have what is probably my ultimate classic. A mk1 escort with a 330 bhp cosworth yb, 5 speed t5 gearbox, 6 linked with bilstiens all round and decent brakes. Looks a million pounds and goes like greased diarrhoea. It will do for me untill I can afford one of those porsche 904 gts on the previous page. That is sex on wheels.
Oooh, any pics?

I agree with all of that smile Frigging abut with points isn't a core part of the classic experience. Many 'dream classics' seem to involve what amounts to wedging an LS7 into a Midget.

TR6 with updated fuel injection on ITBs, nice exhaust system to bring the best out of the straight six, some more modern brakes and suspension, nothing too lairy.
