Does anyone know want platform it's based on? Is it the size of an Evoque, Discovery or RR (amongst others)?
It is based on the same, new body in white architecture used on the XE - no connection with any other JLR product. It is said to be able to accomodate different wheelbases (and widths?) so I would expect to see it on other future JLR products.Jaguar needs a road focussed SUV, sales of which exceeded sedans in the USA last year for the first time.

I just don't get it. Surely JLR will be cannibalizing their own LR/RR sales? I guess they have the platform there from the LR/RR, so perhaps the project cost isn't as high as a ground up project would be.
I believe it's based on the XE platform, not any LR/RR product. Also they claim it will be it is aimed to be better on road than off so maybe not so much overlap.I think it's a good move for the brand. Having spent decades selling essentially just one model to one type of customer the last decade has been fantastic as they've steadily expanded the range into more important sectors and markets.

Variety is the fruit of life, so the consumer should only be happy about more choice.
Not really. The Jaguar brand is still upmarket compared to the LR brand. Plus there are people out there who'd never buy a LR. Variety is the fruit of life, so the consumer should only be happy about more choice.

This is the key, I believe. The crossover utility vehicle (CUV) segment is on fire at the moment and this F Pace has the potential to earn massive volume and profit -- particularly in the US and China. What's more, the Jaguar brand, as it is perceived in the US, may suffer at the moment from just a whiff of idle elitism. A range of CUVs at the right price points will help Jaguar to become more relevant to more people.
Looking at the years ahead... If we want more from Jaguar that is exquisite and feline (the lower-volume head-turning motors) let's hope that they sell loads of F Paces to line the corporate coffers.

Think I may have seen one of these in traffic earlier today - not sure. Seemed a bit small. Looked like an even smaller Evoque, but from a distance I could of sworn it looked like it had some kind of fabric / convertible roof?!
That could have been the Evoque convertible - they have been seen out in public.Eviltad said:
Trying to work out what was going on with the IP.
It either looks like a sticker of a VDU stuck on OR rear projection screen onto the flush surface of the IP.
Yes, that looks like a sticker, good spot! A rear projection screen would be pretty good, as you don't have to stick to a rectangular screen - the designers would love that. But, there are issues with screen washout and packaging space. It either looks like a sticker of a VDU stuck on OR rear projection screen onto the flush surface of the IP.
I think the main reason JLR are building this is China. They like the old European brands, but don't really know their heritage. Whilst in the UK we think of Jaguar as making fast saloons, in China they just want an SUV with a Jaguar badge.
I think Jaguar are being positioned as the sporty choice of the JLR Brand and the F-Pace will be better positioned to compete against the likes of Porsche with their SUVs than the current Evoque/Disco Sport manages at the mo.
Leave all the 4x4 heritage and off road ability to LR, Jaguar have much more freedom to focus on the on-road stuff. They cannot be without an SUV model either, it is the fastest growing segment worldwide currently. Simple business sense.

According to the tax details it has a 3.0 diesel. Presumably the 3.0 litre 275bhp Turbo?
You also missed the Audi TTAlso the Beetle and Scirocco, which are just Golfs in drag.

The VAG group have 3 versions of the Golf with VW, Skoda & SEAT.. Why would JLR not make several cars from the same architecture?
