I dont get the whole wanting to hide the age of your car thing. Why do yo feel the need to pretend to have something more expensive than what you have?
Proper petrol heads will appreciate your car for what it is regardless of its age. Anyone who judges you based on the age or value of your car is a bell end.

I do have a personalized plate (just because I like it) and have had it for 20 years and its been on about 10 different cars. If you change your car often it can become a bit of a PITA.
Id get a plate to hide the age of the car but it would have to be the right car (suitably old and classic) and the plate would need to be obviously related to the model of car.

YES........ Certainly one of my best investments, had it and enjoyed it for 25 years now but as silly as it sounds i wouldn't be able to afford it in today's market....... and i'v had a couple of substantial offers over the years which I have obviously declined, its here to stay........ yes

Yes absolutely even though it makes my car look older to those who don't recognize the later shape. Of course MY57 ANG only works on one model of car.
Having said that the 2015 may attract silly offers for the plate which if sufficient I may consider.

My triplet brother and I have similar very similar reg numbers letter, 2 digits (birthday) and initials. One of my first conversations with my now Mrs was about tts with matching number plates, how we laughed when she met my brother

yes, because it ensures when I arrive at the golf club everyone immediately knows that my Johnson is considerably larger than theirs.

I'm considering this also. Already have one on the Monaro which suits the character of the car and makes people laugh. I see nothing wrong with the one letter, number and initials combination. What's embarrassing is when people try to spell words that nobody else can see and use dodgy spacing/screw combinations. I say go for it and stuff what anyone else thinks.

Being someone who is scared that people I've never met and never will meet might know what year my car was registered.

Absolutely.

It's my year of birth (two digits) followed by my three initials.

I occasionally look to see if the other way around is for sale, never has been yet.

Reg No's that match the car model are ok, GT 40, 285 GTB, F40, F1, etc, etc, but, of course the prices, amd once bought, will (probably) never be surrendered. And maybe your name if it's 3 characters, plus 1 or 2 digits. But, again, those will probably be outside my price bracket.

If it was the same price I paid, definately yes, but it's gone up in value quite nicely.
Bought STE 2S years ago, shortly after S2 STE became available, when 'S's were released, thought to myself why do I need 2 reg's and it'll be ages until I buy a car that's new enough to fit it to, it wasn't much less than I paid for mine so I passed on it, roll on a few years, I've got 2 cars now, S's are 'old cars' my daily is new enough to wear an 'S' plate and I'm kicking myself for not buying it.

I got one free when I bought the Clubman. Don't know why the seller/dealer left it on there.

I would happily buy a cheap £250 plate with M3 then some random letters on it for my car, mainly to hide the fact it is an early one (02)
Also makes the car a bit more distinctive.

Spending more than this though, especially when you get up into the £1000s, just seems crazy to me, far better things to spend that much money on imo. However if I was minted and wanted to let everyone else know how well off I was then maybe my opinion would be different. tongue out

Cant see the point ( other than vanity ) My brother in law bought one for himself and one for my sister. Initials, but they mean nothing to anyone else and just say "look at me". Every car has an individual number plate when registered, isn't that enough? One of my cars has a "Q" plate - I love it because people ask questions about it, but many kit car owners do all they can to avoid "Q" plates for some reason. Cant see why, as it doesn't age at all

I got one free on my 993 which a previous owner left on the car.

It's a crap 'irish plate' GIW 53** but I just begrudge paying money to the DVLA to have it removed!

We've got a Saab 93 cab, it came with one on it
It' doesn't apply to me or my wife and loosely looks like Abbie although it is spaced properly

To be honest I like it and when the Saab gos in a couple of years we've already said we would keep it

Anyone who knows their cars will probably be able to work out its age because it doesn't have the dame Edna Everidge glasses on the lights

But nonetheless we like it and it doesn't bother us if someone we don't know does or doesn't

It doesn't cost anything to remove/scrap a number and request the car to be issued with a age related plate.!
So you get get shut of it for free...

To me, unless the plate is hilarious or ironic or something, all you achieve with a custom registration is making it look like you were ashamed of the age of your car.

That's in your head then. Wouldn't even cross my mind that somebody would be worried about the age of the car they drive?
