Pretty much any car on track will get blown away by a bike engined 7.. Not that you can get a seriously quick one for 5k.
Tyres and depriciation won't bother the owners of a car like this..
As for the MX5 being the better car.. I'm sure you've driven both back to back to compare. If not then you are speaking ste.

A lot of people will buy thinking of this car as an asset and not a car so if it depreciates, they'll be a bit miffed and probably get shut.
Then there are the other people who walk in who can't afford a 911 GT3, but could 'stretch' to this. PCP arranged, £900/month and out they drive not being able to afford the fuel other than to work and back. I have seen plenty of people pull this stunt, especially with GTRs.
As for driving either car, of course I haven't. But who mentioned driving - I was on about the ownership experience.
This isn't a Ferrari, Lambo, or McLaren, it's an entry level Porsche.

I think it looks better in blue with red calipers, but would still probably have mine in black
Wow, how good does that look...As for the gearbox comments, Porsche just can't win can they. They launch a 911 GT3 with PDK only and people moan about a lack of enjoyment and involvement.
They launch a GT4 Cayman that is manual only, for the time being, and people accuse them of nobbling it to avoid beating the 911..
Always had faith Porsche would bring us the antithesis of modern motoring...a car to be held aloft as a defining product.
When all around seek electronic trickery, hybrid shenanigans, SUV and engorged weight (including Porsche )
The Cayman GT4 comes to save real petrolheads
...but no...not in yellow....
white or grey with red wheels please....

Interesting in the evo video that he states the car has a minimum of 385hp at 10,000ft and 40c etc. whilst smiling..I think they are sandbagging this cars power output more than usual.
4.4 to 62 from a RWD manual with no launch control eludes to more ponies than quoted in my opinion, what a cracking car.

Very possibly but assuming it doesn't weigh 2 tons then 385bhp is mnore than enough on UK roads.4.4 to 62 from a RWD manual with no launch control eludes to more ponies than quoted in my opinion, what a cracking car.
I had a gen 1 Cayman S for 4 years and very rarely got to use it to its full potential in this country.

The GT4 will appeal to a very different demographic from those looking at a GTR.

Not sure if serious?? I already have similar running costs and I'm very interested by this. You don't buy cars like this and worry about running costs, all part and parcel of it. Maybe i'll look at the MX5 you mentioned instead?? ha ha
Ok I'll put it another way. If I bought this car I would have to cut down on the number of trackdays/sprints I do and sell the race car. Yes I could run one doing 12k miles a year and maybe a single track day, but I couldn't afford to shell out for a new set of rears every other month during summer. I'd also be worried about dinging it etc. However you are dead right that the people who buy don't think about the running costs...until they have a service bill for £1200.
Interesting that you laugh at the MX-5.

Entry level? Don't be daft.
The Cayman/Boxster is the entry level sportscar from Porsche. Then the 911/Panamera and then the 918 Spyder. Yes it has some bells and whistles but it is still the ENTRY level model. RocketRabbit said:

semantics. The GT4 is not an entry level Porsche you know this.
The entry level model is the Boxster
then Cayman
then 911
then 918
The Panamera is Porsche's entry level barge
The Macan is their entry level SUV
then Cayenne.

Trackdays at £320 per tyre and you'll get blown away by the guy in a £5k Bike engined Seven.
The new MX-5 is a much better car and one that you'll be able to drive without worrying about running costs or potential depreciation.
Surely the fact that people are mention 'vital options' means the car is a farce for 'Not as successful as their mates with the GT3' City boys or IT managers who think they can drive.

Mate, maybe some people just have a hell of a lot more money than you and want the Catman GT4??

gawd i love this car.
if they allow you to wazz away even more money on non-list paint i'd so have mine in mexico blue! (notwithstanding i am £70k down on the GT4 clubsport budget..!)
I get what Rocket fella is on about but I think the point is that nobody (or rather very few) really will buy this and do 10+ track days a year in it. Its more of a car for those who want something a bit special and maybe 4 times a year take it on a proper trip, maybe a Spa weekend or a couple of Goldtrack days at Silverstone etc. For those weekends this car will be epic and the rest of the time just looking at the thing will give one the horn.

That said plenty of GT3 / RS owners track their cars regularly and swallow the running costs. I wouldnr be surprised if several GT3 / potential GT3 owners decided to go for the GT4 instead and save themselves £50K.
I wouldn't laugh at the MX5 but it's stupid to compare it with the Porsche.

I know people with a lot more money than me. They'd buy the GT3 (Or the Turbo S because they want to use it every day). The only reason they'd buy this is because they'd expect it to be an asset but if it didn't gain 5% per year, their money would be better of elsewhere (Of which they'd know). GT Porsches are tulips at the moment!
This is a poser car. Hardcore drivers' won't buy it.
How can I tell? Look at the posts previous. All of them refer to the look, the colour, the options, the resale value, how awesome does that rear wing look (but no mention about the downforce it provides). Nout on steering feel, tramlining, engine response, even noise has been missed! Only a couple of posts about the gearbox (Manual and long gearing).
