RE: Porsche Cayman GT4 - official!
Discussion
Am i one of the few not feeling the love for this car?
It is not a looker and completely mis-proportioned. Has ridiculously oversized wheels and a stupid chavvy rear wing. Costs and eye watering £65k without options which according to Porsche fanboys is a 'bargain'!?
Still has the hideous electric steering and now comes fitted as standard with the ticking time bomb engine. Amazing that these cars still only come with a frankly abysmal 2 year warranty. Wonder why that could be...

I'd guess it's no accident that it's rated slightly lower hp than the 991... As a drivers car the Cayman must be coming dangerously close to being a better option than a 991.
Will be interested to see how it fares in a road test.
I should think the GT4 will walk all over a 991 Carrera/S/GTS for ultimate road/track pace. Lighter, big mid-range from the 3.8, a lot more focused suspension and Cup2 tyres - it appears to be quite the weapon. Will be interested to see how it fares in a road test.

It's not about numbers its about how the engineers restrict a perfectly good 911 engine. Drive a new Cayman S and you can feel the enthusiasm waning over the last 1000rpm compared to the 911. It's such a great engine, and the car deserves the full 345bhp 3.4 flat six that already exists. The chassis is more than capable of handling plenty more. Instead, they launch it with 315bhp and every year we get ten 'more' with each edition. That annoyed me during the test drive, it would drive me nuts as an owner. However good I thought the car it was I would always wonder what it would be like with the extra 30bhp that they paid someone to take away. The same goes for the GT4, however good it is, FFS give it 400bhp. For £80+k it should have at least that.
Lotus stuffed the full 345bhp Evora S engine in the cheaper Exige V6 from day one. The Cayman GTS doesn't have '15 bhp more' than a Cayman S, it really has 'now only 10 bhp less' than a 911.
Sort of agree. Although he basically said it's 385 on the spec sheet only, so I doubt there's any difference. Lotus stuffed the full 345bhp Evora S engine in the cheaper Exige V6 from day one. The Cayman GTS doesn't have '15 bhp more' than a Cayman S, it really has 'now only 10 bhp less' than a 911.
Having driven the base 991, there's no perceptible difference in straight line performance between it and the GTS.
Ultimately, Porsche could make both 911s more powerful. All cars are built to a price/performance agenda.
I also agree about the steering being the weak link, but it will improve through development. Good to know it at least has the same specs as the GT3 rack.

Jonny, I've been waiting all day and you haven't disappointed ! I think if we want to be absolutely correct the rear one's are "Chapman Struts" ? Looks like I'm going all manual . Regards, Tim.
According to Andreas Pruning-thingy in the video it has GT3 front end with wishbones so that's a big improvement. I've revised my post accordingly! If you get one of these you might miss the PDK going by your recent accounts but at least you'll be able to keep up with my Exige now!

What's the V6 like in terms of track times? Are you up there with the GT3s?If you get one of these you might miss the PDK going by your recent accounts but at least you'll be able to keep up with my Exige now!

Have just remembered that 991.2 is coming with turbos and huge power increase, so the 991 will make quite a jump in pace keep the hierarchy as you say.
This car isn't as much about the outright speed as its focus - I think that is where this car really differs from the rest of the range (i.e. GT3-lite)
I'm pretty certain it still has struts, the wishbones he's talking about are the lower arms linking to the bottom of the strut. The standard Cayman wishbone is non-adjustable for camber, the GT3 version is a two piece arrangement that can be shimmed to increase camber, and this is fitted to the GT4.

I'm not a massive fan of Porsche though I've always drawn to the GT3s due mainly to the rave reviews they get but 996 model apart they've always been slightly out of reach budget wise. I have to agree with most of the posters on here though that this thing looks absolutely fantastic and I'm sure it will be just as fantastic to drive.
Definitely something il be looking at in a year or two if they drop into the £50k bracket.

Ticking time bomb engine? The 9A1 has been out since 2008 and is very strong......confused as to why you think is gonna explode. It is not a looker and completely mis-proportioned.
