Trackdays at £320 per tyre and you'll get blown away by the guy in a £5k Bike engined Seven.

The new MX-5 is a much better car and one that you'll be able to drive without worrying about running costs or potential depreciation.

Surely the fact that people are mention 'vital options' means the car is a farce for 'Not as successful as their mates with the GT3' City boys or IT managers who think they can drive.

Looks great. I must be getting old as £65k seems like a lot for a Cayman.
It's because we're getting old. You can probably spend £40k speccing up a new Golf.
Having gone through the configurator on the Porsche site, I suspect you'd want around £10-15k worth of options on this Gt4 unfortunately.

On the one hand, I applaud Porsche for giving people the chance to buy a billy basic GT4 at a bargain price (£64k).

On the other, I'm a bit pissed off that I have to buy the €2800 seats in order to spec the €3900 clubsport package.

I'd guess it's no accident that it's rated slightly lower hp than the 991... As a drivers car the Cayman must be coming dangerously close to being a better option than a 991.

Will be interested to see how it fares in a road test.
I should think the GT4 will walk all over a 991 Carrera/S/GTS for ultimate road/track pace. Lighter, big mid-range from the 3.8, a lot more focused suspension and Cup2 tyres - it appears to be quite the weapon.

A future classic for sure... I'd bet any money this will hold its value - just look at a Cayman R, still hovering around 40k, and this one is even more SPECIAL! Just gotta try and convince/kid yourself that it would be an 'investment' haha! :-s

I'd be quite happy with a 'basic' GT4 smile Maritime blue or Speed Yellow + silver rims = sorted.

Does raise the question of the Cayman range and if it's now too big, perhaps? The 'S' model now seems rather redundant what with the excellent GTS now on stream. 2.7 for entry, GTS then GT4 would do it.

Pretty much any car on track will get blown away by a bike engined 7.. Not that you can get a seriously quick one for 5k.

Tyres and depriciation won't bother the owners of a car like this..

As for the MX5 being the better car.. I'm sure you've driven both back to back to compare. If not then you are speaking ste.

The 987R is very rare because not many people wanted one when it was launched (it was not a production constrained vehicle). Holding its value is relative - It has stabilised about 25% below what it cost new so people buying new did lose money (unlike its contemporary GT3s {in RHD}, which now trade above list).

The consideration with the 981 GT4 is that once specced this is not £64k, but more like £75-82k and with the current exchange rate you can still go to Europe and source a LHD 997.2 GT3 for that. It is still a bargain compared to the 991, but when you consider that most of its predecessors were Cayman Rs specced in the low to mid £50k range is certainly isn't cheap.

I have had my name down for a few months, but I simply can't afford it right now, but then again I think it will appreciate in value as my own feeling is that demand will be incredibly strong. I'm trying to convince myself to spend the £5k deposit on an old MX5 and a holiday, but I keep looking at the Porsche site and all the first reports and this looks perfect...damn you Porsche.

Yes, tyres and depreciation will bother owners of this car.

A lot of people will buy thinking of this car as an asset and not a car so if it depreciates, they'll be a bit miffed and probably get shut.

Then there are the other people who walk in who can't afford a 911 GT3, but could 'stretch' to this. PCP arranged, £900/month and out they drive not being able to afford the fuel other than to work and back. I have seen plenty of people pull this stunt, especially with GTRs.

As for driving either car, of course I haven't. But who mentioned driving - I was on about the ownership experience.

This isn't a Ferrari, Lambo, or McLaren, it's an entry level Porsche.

Um. Well. Good god yes.

This'll end up doubling in value, no doubt (seems strange doesn't it?)

All sorts of want.

Not sure if serious?? I already have similar running costs and I'm very interested by this. You don't buy cars like this and worry about running costs, all part and parcel of it. Maybe i'll look at the MX5 you mentioned instead?? ha ha

Love it!

Looks fantastic, it will be sublime to drive and at that price appears to be very decent value for money. I just hope they have shortened the gear ratios a fair becuase they were just too long.

At least I may realistcally be able to afford one in the distant future unlike the new Ferrari 488 I adore.

Will be interesting to see which is the best driver'a car between the GT4 CS, 996 GT3 and Lotus Exige V6 Cup. All similarish money and all hardcore road and trackday cars.
