What to do when you have to park near c***s
Discussion
So the wife works at a college. Car got keyed a few months ago. Just had it serviced on Thursday, came back nice and shiny (thanks Lexus!). Anyway, now (yesterday) it has a scrape from the nearside bumper all the way down the side of the car, like someone has reversed down it.
Obviously chances are it will happen again, which is s**t.
Anything you can do to catch them? Cameras? Laser turrets?

I am amazed that with the advances in dashcam tech, no-one seems to be able to come up with a 360 degree 24/7 CCTV cams for a car. It surely should be possible. It might be tricky to catch the keying offender, but it could get the car reg from the cars inflicting the damage, enabled the drivers to be traced and invited to pay for repairs.
A shed/stter is the only answer. I have Suzuki Wagon for exactly this reason as the parking outside my office is comical, we have at least one or two shunts we see out the from window each week, mostly grannies/grandads who cant park or drive to save their life. We had one last week that hit three cars, carried on oblivious and parked and then denied all knowledge despite having three people there who saw him do it,
I was considering this today. On London streets where I live and park my car it is routine for people to leave significant dents (not dings) and drive off. No witnesses can be bothered, I guess because it is simply viewed as an unremarkable everyday occurrence. It has happened to me with two separate cars, both of which are far from snotters and which I would really rather keep in good condition.
The only solution, in my view, is to accept that you will be on very good terms with your preferred bodyshop/dent man. Alternatively you have to buy a car that you are totally indifferent to.
For practical reasons I only want one car, and therefore I have to resign myself to regular bodyshop work. It will take some significant mental adjustment, but stewing over the injustice of it all will only ruin my free time.
Hope this helps!

I have to park at the station when working in the smoke etc
Hate parking in town etc
Needed something with a roof rack
Needed a backup spare car for when mine or the other half goes out
Always wanted to get into off-roading / greenlaning but couldn't be bothered with a landy / similar
Got a Suzuki Jimny which is an amazing all rounder, brilliant in standard form, great fun to whizz about
Fold the rear seats flat and the barn door on the back means it'll swallow a lot
So get a Jimny, I've had a couple and lost a tiny amount each time
