Beginners modding - Peugeot 307

ɢoing after an Mɢ Zʀ now, ɴOT a 307 ----------------------
Hiya!
So I will be picking up one of these beauties as my 2nd motor and wanted some suggestions of some basic mods that I can do for the car that are inexpensive.
Here is a list of some suggestions made so far that I plan to work on:
~ gearbox oil
~ short ram intake
~ headlight bulb upgrade
~ pedal set
~ custom seat covers
~ aftermarket exhaust
~ new spark plugs
~ new brake discs + pads
~ tire set
~ aftermarket steering wheel w/ airbag
~ wheel nut
~ engine oil flush/change
I now realise a lot of you are seasoned drivers, that have acquired tastes of cars. To that end, most of you won't think much of my car choice, nor the sort of mods I'm after. I'm not really looking to pick another car, I'm quite set on the idea of a 307.
More importantly, I'm only 21, and I know I will regret spending the money down the line, but that's a mistake I want to make - I don't want to have not had that experience!

Speaking from experience, if you're doing it to gain experience in playing with cars, dont, buy a cheap s
tter and work on it if you have room, otherwise you'll end up making a perfectly good car worse more than likely.
Otherwise, all the money you'd use modding it, save, and put it towards your next more fun car. Will be worth it

Oh I'm not worried about wrecking the car, I don't expect a penny for resell after I buy it. 100% I'm trying to learn more about cars, but that's the car I'm gonna buy anyway so might aswell play with it. I'm only driving it when I'm here in summer and a month in winter when I'm home from unitter and work on it if you have room, otherwise you'll end up making a perfectly good car worse more than likely.Otherwise, all the money you'd use modding it, save, and put it towards your next more fun car. If you're after an improvement on noise, just (if you must) get a short ram eBay intake. Don't (IMO) bother with the exhaust.Aesthetically just get Osram bulbs. Your money for other things would be better spent on decent quality tyres and brakes.
Just speaking from a been there, driven a 90bhp hatch for a year, scenario.
Asking Pistonheads how to modify a 307, is like asking Mumsnet 'How to beat the wife without bruising', its never gonna go your way....
My advice is, instead of 'modifying' why not maintain? If you want to learn, then give it a really good service, oil, sparks, filters (Air, Cabin, Fuel, Oil etc) Service the parking brake, check all bulbs, maybe put some Osram Nightbreakers in or something. Didnt James May on a episode of TG prove how effective a service an be?
Inspect bushes and brakes, tracking?
What are the tyres like? Linglongs or another equally ste tyre? Why not put some reasonable mid-range tyre on it? It will improve the feel, decrease tyre noise and maybe even improve MPG, not to mention grip and safety.
In my opinion, all of the above will improve performance! Good luck

Studies have shown that modification to one single component of a car will improve the cars performance and safety more than any other. It's a modification that you can take with you from car to car with no additional re-fitting costs and it should improve over time and last a lifetime.
You should modify the nut behind the wheel.
Take some further driver training and learn how to use all 90 of your current horsepower. It'll give you a much greater performance increase than a loud exhaust or a new steerring wheel.

Making an already terrible car even more terrible with tacky add ons will not help you "learn more about cars" as you put it.
Save your money and get some experience behind the wheel whilst saving up for something better. Better does not necessarily mean a lot more expensive either.
Something like a Clio 172 or MX5 (PH default suggestion) can be had for shed money these days. Upgrading things that will actually make a difference to the car such as suspension and brakes etc will be far more beneficial and will undoubtedly help you to "learn more about cars".

Indeed! My wife has had hers for eight years and the bd thing refuses to die! I think it knows how much I hate it and is doing it to spite me. Possibly the worst car I've ever driven. (Comfortable on the motorway, though.)Sound system - better speakers from halfords etc

Bulbs will not be cheap, as if it's anything like my G/F's 307 you'll be replacing the fking things about twice a week, I've never known a car like it . She also had the 1.4 90bhp version, it's a "whiny" little engine that really wouldn't suit a loud exhaust so I'd recommend a loud sound system so you can't hear it.
....or buy a mark 1 Focus...
