RE: Subaru WRX STI: PH Fleet
Discussion
As I've commented before....give it a short while and the tuners will have this car running up there with the Golf R's and A Class AMG's of this world.
It will sound better, feel better and put a much bigger grin on your face, I'm willing to bet.
As for hauling kit, there's part of me that prays they bring the proposed estate over here....but then I'm a biased old school wagon owner!
Only thing that might sway me right now will be the new Ford Mustang (different car I know, but I'm a sucker for a V8).

Like the sound of the way it drives, but my God, you'd need 2 bags over your head to get behind the wheel and would need to park it several streets away from your house.
Is that the opinion of an actual human being?Don't get me wrong - I've owned 4 Imprezas and love them to bits but why the hell buy a car with the 2.5 engine and all it's associated weaknesses. Suburu may claim the issues are sorted but I've seen no evidence to suggest that's true. This is basically the same block my 2007 RB320 had and I sold that in the end as I was getting tired of the paranoia. Common £5k+ engine rebuilds should be the preserve of TVRs only in this day and age.

Maybe a few cables ties pulled really really tight around the base of that bag, around the neck area, would cure your woes.DanielSan said:
I believe the VAG group offer all you'll ever need.
Oh Dear!VAG make good cars but at this current time they are failing to provide a car that is fun to drive and/or has any feel/connection with the driver.
IMO if you can drive and want some fun you get a car that has the potential to challenge you and that you can challenge, rather than a car that will stay within its set confines regardless of the capability of the driver. Its an easy way to sort the men from the boys or the drivers from the badge snobs and those concerned with the bragging figures.
But we are all entitled to our own opinion.

Did you not read which post I quoted when I typed that reply? Or see the post I did 4 up from that one... VAG make good cars but at this current time they are failing to provide a car that is fun to drive and/or has any feel/connection with the driver.

Reading that back, that sounds quite arsey. Didn't mean it to sound that wat just ask the question.

I have heard of these problems although I have never had them on my cars and I have never come across them on the newer models but I think Subaru would do a lot better if they gave us the Japanese spec engines as they are a lot stronger and also more tunable. On the other hand a lot of manufactures are struggling with overall reliability these days on the higher performance cars i.e. VAG/BMW with their coil packs (again they claim to have sorted this problem) which although not 5k at a time it all adds up. My friends Golf R has already had them replaced twice and the car isn't 6 months old yet!

I dropped a clanger on that one (and it is not the first one!)
Sorry
Wholeheartedly agree with this.
Spent some time with the previous gen WRX STi and, while it does feel a bit archaic compared to the modern mega hatches, it's got real soul. I know that's a bit of a cliche, but there's something a bit old 911-like about the way you have to adopt a specific technique and a bit more concentration to get the best out of it. Plus, while you obviously can differentiate fast Focuses, Meganes, Golfs and Astras from the way they drive, none of them have as much identity as the Subaru.

I agree with the article but what does this car offer that a Hawk model doesn't?
That's the problem for me, I love Subaru's, but they haven't moved on...especially that 2.5..its nothing short of a slight that Subaru left that in the car.the EJ25 should have been killed a long time ago.
They had the FA churning out 296bhp and far better Co2 and mileage in the JDM legacy, before this car was released to market.
Lets not even mention the reliability of the block, if Subaru had no alternative I wouldn't have a complaint but they have.

Not driven an Golf R then. For the record I love Imprezas (we still have one), evos, RS's and anything else that's great to drive whatever the badge. Chose my R on the back of a test drive confirming what the reviews have said about what it's like to drive. Oh and people can stop knocking Imprezas for fuel consumption, the R uses as much super unleaded as an STI.
