ignoring the wheels there is barely any difference, other than the price, which goes up as soon as you spec it to get rid of those horrid wheels on the R. Lets not forget the R-line golf which muddies the water even more:
Its not alone, the new leon, A45, M135 etc all basically look the same as a boggo model. Whilst I don't want a mass of spoilers etc something that I can actually pick out in the supermarket car park would be nice. A it is you'd be hard pressed to do that with the current crop of 30k hot hatches.

Not the first time someone has agreed with my awkwardness
I think there is a balance to strike. The current golfs all look the same, the leon is as bad, even the M135 is barely any different.
You can make a car stand out without being over the top
Yes, and the Mk1 Leon is a good example. I said it was rare, not impossible. (My turn to be awkward now.) I think there is a balance to strike. The current golfs all look the same, the leon is as bad, even the M135 is barely any different.

But tastes differ, and I imagine thus Civic will be sensitive to the colour it's chosen in. That Leon Cupra certainly is.

Confirmed to be a manual, if the box is as good as the one in the FN2 them praise the Lord! A cracking shift, one of the best gearboxes on the market, the prior Honda N/A Type Rs were untouchable in this respect, IMO.The seats do look great also, yet I expect the final ones to be more shapely/curved as per the EP3/FN2 seats..... That big, stupid looking screen on the centre console annoys me no end, though.

It's called brand whoring, not everyone can afford the best model so in order not to hurt their feelings, the boggo models now all look like the top end one. However this ignores the fact that people who have bought the top model are now getting shafted. "Best hatch in the world ever" or so some keep telling me:

I preferred it when their was clear delineation between the top model and everything else. That way not only did you know that you were driving the quickest version but so did everyone else. :-)
If you wanted the one with the bigger wheels and the nice bodykit, you had to work harder, not just tick the sports\s-line\M-sport\AMG option when speccing your 1.2tdi. It's like that weird thing they are teaching in schools theses days where there are no winners or losers so everyone feels "included". Unfortunately that only leaves you with two choices now, make the hottest version look the same or go really crazy like with the Type R, but then that has it's own problems.
Get a feeling the CTR in the video is possibly just a render?
The front end official teaser pics they released the other day in Championship White confirmed they have standard round fog lights - this video shows it with the DRL bars like in the earlier concepts.
Nice but I think possibly just CG?

Yes. The number plate saying "Concept" is another clue. The front end official teaser pics they released the other day in Championship White confirmed they have standard round fog lights - this video shows it with the DRL bars like in the earlier concepts.

Still, it's a pretty great advert.
^ That's quite a reveal. Google currency converter brings the premium version in at £28500 ish; whether the UK list price will bring that up to £30k, only time will tell.
What's also telling is that even the base version isn't some sort of stripped out racer, and when the spec sheet lists details like Lane Departure Warning and city speed anti-collision assistance then you know this Type R is looking outside of its previous fan base. To be honest, it has to given the investment it now needs to recoup (which it surely can't do now, but at least the loss can be mitigated).
Whether that will alienate the really quite hardcore fans remains to be seen. I think they'll pitch it right but only time will tell.
Of course, I'd love these to depreciate like a stone so I can pick one up for a song next year but even if it's a dud, it won't. That relative lack of depreciation may affect lease and PCP deals in a positive way for buyers. I think a lot of its commercial success will depend on cleverness with finance deals along the lines of the Golf R and BMW M135i; at this price point there will be few cash buyers and the how good the available finance rates are will encourage or put off a lot of people.
Pistonheads: % APR matters.
PS- I'm a bit peeved that parking sensors only come with the premium model. With that rear wing, you'll probably need them!

If those prices are accurate I would expect the premium version to be similar to the GT spec for the FN2 and make up 90% of the sales.
if it is under £30k and over 300bhp and with all that kit, this car will appeal to the masses for sure.
With adaptive dampers, LSD, a higher revving turbo than the competitors, it will also appeal to the Honda Type R enthusiasts.
Everybody wins, Honda sells a bucket load and invests in more Type R models - Integra, New S2k, NSX
I'll take one in Blue, with the premium pack

Disappointing that the concept red isn't an option...I'd have paid extra for that.
Didn't think they would tbh as that definitely looks like "show paint", it even appears to have some some subtle flip paint characteristics. For concept cars, they will often use special paint and clear coat which is 8-10 layers deep to give the cars that extra deep shine and "glow" for showing them off under show lights, a process which would be very difficult to product-ionise, for obvious reasons. If you thought the £500-£1000 for the normal metallic paint option is expensive then you'd be in for a rude awakening

I think i read somewhere that it has gold fleck (could be the wrong word?) in it. Bit like Nighthawk black has thee purple in it...
I'm sure it would be expensive, but it looked damn good.

It is possible to have the fancy paint from manufactures Ford with its ST Electric Orange and RS Green are both 3 stage pearls. However downside is they are virtually impossible to match, a nightmare to spray and very expensive hence why I believe most manufacturers prefer a more standard paint finish. I believe the Orange on the Mk3 ST has reverted back to a standard metallic as well. I think i read somewhere that it has gold fleck (could be the wrong word?) in it.
