There's my problem with the R8 right there... I had the luck of the use of a V10 Plus for a day, now I I'm notgoing to say it wasn't a lot of fun but...
In the pic above, just ahead of the gear shift, are the air con and heated seats controls. I have a TTS and they are lifter straight out of the TT, along with the seats and satnav. All subjective I know but if I was spending £130K for a car I'd expect a be more of an individual, bespoke interior than hand me down stuff from a £37k TT.... As good as it was I just couldn't get away from that fact. Couldn't fault the performance but I couldn't warm to the R8, interior wise it just didn't feel special, like I was sitting in a bigger TT.
I fear the new one will follow the same formula, we know it will have the new TT's TFT screen....
Also Audi seem hell bent on dragging Lamborghini down to a mediocre product, holding it back in the handling/fun stakes whilst elevating the R8 in those areas. That's just wrong!

That's why the car costs only 130k in fairness..it's direct competitors are touching on 180k..maybe its because its 100k plus, and it's not put into proper perspective, but that's 40% more..it's massive price difference .is the switch gear in a 458 or 12c any better?
It wouldn't be my first choice but I think critiquing it for not being feeling special when you're getting a 550bhp N/A mid engined V10 is off the mark.
I think Honda will struggle to under cut this car with the NSX and then people may appreciate that it actually represents really good value.

Not recently no. But im not talking about the way it drives. I've said before technically it may be up there just like the GTR. Its about whether or not it feels special and one of the other posts made the point well. It feels like a bigger TT inside.

£100K on a R8 or a 599? Come now. There is no comparison!
You're right, there is no comparison because the 599 is no longer on sale and cost twice the price when new.

There is no comparison because the 599 is not a competitor.

would you rather have a 599 or a Zonda F?

VW's business model build everything on as few platforms as possible. Using the same parts and modules across as many models as possible brings huge economies of scale! So yes it's probably kept the price down. I'm not bothered about what I can't see but the things I can see, for the money, I don't want to see it in the lowliest TT.
Of course if an R8 owner has never sat in, owned or driven a TT he'll but none the wiser.... Or doesn't care. At the end of the day it's a personal thing.
Yes, but Gallardo is not different – both of them are VW bin parts specials: check the Sat Nav unit – same as in A3.

I knew some one would miss the point, there's no wrong or right just opinion/personal preference. I did say I couldn't fault the performance. Saying it didn't feel special was code for its a bad/rubbish car, far from it. Sitting in traffic, at a junction... TO ME, the interior didn't feel special. Of course it's on another planet to my car but sitting the R8 just reminded me too much of it. Re the cost... We all know why and it is good value, no argument there.
It wouldn't be yours first choice etc... I think we actually agree more than we don't wink

Oh I agree, how much of the £50K price difference is down to the Lamborghini badge alone and not the difference in the quality/exclusivity fillings? Undoubtedly majoring on the badge.

Interesting that he says he believes the sideblades are carried over, after feeling through the camouflage. So far any artist impressions have said not. We shall see.

Resorting to swearing already…

The point I make (which clearly you miss), is that if you have £100k+ so spend on a car, there are better cars than the bland R8. New or used.

Can we stop the bickering please.

Some people like the R8, some don't.

how many of these cars are bought outright with cash? You think Ferrari are offering competitive packages on 6 year old 599's? with servicing and warranty?

Have you actually ever driven an R8? You comments suggest you haven't, given that you never actually talk about anything really driving-related, but you never state so categorically. I highly recommend you do.
I drove one a few years ago, I really, really enjoyed it.

I am not missing your point, your point just adds nothing to the discussion. Every single time a new car is announced on here, at least one person will say £x?!?! You could have a used y for that with change to spare!

Listing new cars which you feel are superior to the R8 would add something to the discussion.

Quite. If you want a rear-mid-engined, everyday sports car, there's only one option there- R8.

I don't particularly expect a new ~£100k sports car by a major marque to feel "special". I don't think Porsche 991s feel very "special" in the context of Italian supercars, but I also don't think they're necessarily supposed to. That might just be me being weird, but whatever.

"Better" in what way, though? I assume what you actually mean is that you personally think there are better options, not that there might be measurably better comparable options. Which is fair enough; we get it, you don't like the R8. But if I was in the market for a new, £100k everyday sports car I struggle to think of anything I'd rather have.

According to EVO the V10 Plus is on of the best drivers cars in it's category, so I think given the price there aren't any similar cars that are 'better' dynamically. They did a piece a while back putting it against a 458 and a 12C and while it didn't come out of top they basically said it was every bit the drivers car the other two were.

I love it, it has a 610bhp NA V10 for gods sake! With even Ferrari turning towards turbocharging these days I think a big, atmospheric engine is something to be celebrated.
