RE: Lotus - Evora 400 and beyond

Depends how it is done. The Exige V6 is not exactly competent but boring. The 911 is, to my tastes at least. Now that Lotus are fitting stability control, I don't think it would be the end of the world if they had enough power to be a bit of a handful with it switched off.
Not had the fortune to drive a v6 exige but I very much doubt it is the fastest car in its price bracket, especially with the emphasis on selling in america where the reborn muscle cars are cheaper than fiestas.luke g28 said:

The seems to be little emphasis on the US at the moment. The Evora has been withdrawn from the US market completely.European cars always look very expensive for their straight-line performance in the US. They used to sell on the basis that they went around corners but unfortunately the Americans seem to be developing cars that do that rather well too, these days.

Is it me or does the '5 year plan' seem to just involve fitting a V6 to everything?
There are worse plans when the competition are all busy fitting four-pots to cars which formerly had sixes. kambites said:

No, no it hasn't. One news outlet put two and two together and got confused, then the internet took over. The Evora is for sale in the USA and has been since launch. Orders for the 2016MY Evora are being taken now with delivery expected late summer-early Autumn/Fall. If the previous shape appeals there are still plenty of new and unregistered cars Stateside from which to choose.luke g28 said:

The US is a different situation, for sure. It's very hard for European cars to compete there on outright grunt (though the V6 road car isn't and never has been sold there). In the UK at least, there isn't much else that will get to 100 in under ten seconds for 53k.Impasse said:

It's very hard for European car makers to be competitive on price with American ones in the US, the US industry is just too heavily bank-rolled by the government.

Do JLR have any transverse front-engined drivetrains to give to Lotus?
Don't think so, but in the context of future model development longitudinal drivetrains need not be a problem.kambites said:

Quite. Lotus would have a nice range of powertrains and access to technology/suppliers they can only dream about with stepping on JLRs toes.
Do JLR have any transverse front-engined drivetrains to give to Lotus? That would pave the way for a 500hp Evora / Exige, unlikely it would fit without extensive chassis enlargement mind.
JLR+L .... Could work!
