I too always preferred these over the DC2 Integra. I'm not sure why, I guess just the more compact looks and rarity...
Surely due to be safe place to put your money as few cars are made with a similar direction?
Rarer, handle better, look a billion times better. Yes there abit down on torque compared to the DC2, but around a twisty circuit these handle so well, so good how they handle. Had EK9s, DC2s, DC5s, and the EK9 is the classic, the msot fun, and the best looking...........imo Surely due to be safe place to put your money as few cars are made with a similar direction?
Not many have driven a standard car and reading peoples perceived thoughts of the car is always a chuckle. As an owner, one of the first few in the country and having spent time in the Integra too, I can offer a non bias view.
The reason it was sub 6 in 60 was largely down to the gearing, only use two, the b18c used in the Integra was pretty much same engine but stroked. That makes a big difference on the road as it does lack torque and as standard they struggled, not hitting the claimed bhp either usually mid seventies. They didn't quite handle as well as the Integra either, but a bit easier to drive other than trying to keep that buzzing engine in the zone which was hard but fun at the same time. Not sure I would enjoy it in my late 30's
What makes it special is it was a shopping car stripped of all the crap, lightweight windscreen, blue printed engine, 8k+ Rev limit mine was tuned way beyond this for a period before selling, wacky for the time red interior with oh so comfortable Recaros, simplistic body kit, as good a steering fwd car I have ever driven and rare. One of my fondest memories was a drive through the dales with a group of Evo drivers in the wet, the car was not over shadowed at all and comfortably kept with all until we hit snow! Turn up at a track do 8 sessions drive home, whether it was road or track keeping that belter of an engine on song was sublime and in many ways, whilst not as good as the Integra I enjoyed it more so because it was so rare. Is it worth the premium, along with the increased insurance cost, no, but rare standard oem EK9's are rare.

I find it a nicer place to be than a DC2, and also think it's a better looking car.
The ek9 manages to be raw, while also being a more luxurious place to be that a DC2.
All hondas lack torque but what really lets this down is the gearbox. Change the final drive and it'll change the car.
You dont spend £8k on one of these to be the quickest car around.
I also dont think it's just JDM scene tax - there's plenty of things that make it better than lesser model civics of its age, and for that reason worth more. Stronger chassis, LSD, suspension etc
There's less of these around than the other import Hondas, and they will always hold their value well. I was quted 9k last year for a fresh black import too.
Anyone who would rather have an ep3 over this is mad IMO, they're worlds apart - and the ek9 lets you feel like you're fully in control of the car.
I used to think they were seriously overpriced until I decided to go for one, and now believe them to be worth every penny

While the B16 may have been the torqueless little brother of the mighty B18C, the smaller engines are outlasting the B18s by some margin, which is part if the reason for the price premium. The majority of B18s are now smoking and in dire need of a refresh (and everyone knows once you open up a Honda block, the reliability is a total lottery) where the equivalent B16B is still ripping around trackdays without a hint of the blue death appearing in the rear view mirror.
I had that engine in my EK4 and TBH it was fantastic, really great fun to drive. Loads of torque for a 1.6, but not when you compare it with other 180bhp engines such as the 1.8T VAG units.

Snap
I imported mine in 2008, a car on my must own list and it had to be black.
Pretty disappointing for me because it was gutless at low revs which I expected after several Honda's including the EG SIR which was great.
Should of kept it because they have gone up in value. Mine had 60k miles on and 1 jap owner. cost me £5800 back in UK on road all done new tyres and wheels powdered

I often see a special edition Jordan in Brentwood driven by a 70+ yr old granny. Less hardcore than a CTR but will be a great buy when she snuffs it. genuinely never tracked or abused!
I owned PO1 Jordan too :-)It was officially presented to Eddie Jordan by Honda UK.
Yellow and black with the buzzing hornets embroided on the seats. looked flash but was a bit numb really

What does 'JDM' stand for?
Japanese Domestic Market.Specs slightly differ too, from the UK cars.
I believe JDM ones have a bit more bhp?
I've wanted one of these for years... Over a decade now I guess.. Never got around to buying one though, and at 30 I feel I'm maybe growing out of it a bit! If I'd found the money to buy one as a toy, and kept the mileage sensible I might've not lost a penny!
Its great to finally see a little coverage on this car.
I've always been a fan from afar, finally purchasing one recently. I have the N1 / Racebase version, stripped of further creature comforts.
Not driven a lot of performance cars, but this easily surpasses my previous 2002 106 GTi, that thing lots of chassis tweaks, but retained the standard engine internals. The EK9 was a logical replacement for it, and does everything which it did but this time right out of the "box". Just feels so special, from the moment you fire up the engine. Very balanced, steady and focused.
The 9 isnt however as quick as I expected it to be, but its the entire package that won me over.
I'd love to drive a UKDM / JDM DC2 for comparison. As others have said I believe its the extra rarity and the (IMO) the better overall look that enables this car to claim the higher price tag of the two.
This is a low mileage example, hats off to whoever buys it, imagine they will weigh up the extra cost over the 5k - 6k good example cars out there.

How can anyone say the EK9 looks better than a DC2 Integra? Only enthusiasts will know what an EK9 is, to everyone else it looks just like the 1.4 civic they borrowed off their granded when they were learning to drive.
I definitely prefer the Integra - a distinctive coupe with that ridiculous rear spoiler. So 90's!

Q car. Especially compared to:

Hefty price tags for a reason. These are drivers cars.
