I'd love to know how you go about financing something like this. The most I've ever spent on a car was 6k and this was with a loan from the bank. Apart from that the next most expensive was 4K which I paid cash for.

I doubt it will be cheap to finance due to the likely depreciation.

Problem is you can buy an insignia VXR which offers similar performance for like £20k less before discounts. Volvo just doesnt have the clout to be charging a premium unless it can deliver the goods which from what i can see it doesnt.

Obviously enough people thought the price was right since they sold all of the intended production and plan on building even more of them. I would really lile to try one. Öhlins put a lot of effort to get the setting right on the 'road and track kit'..

I'm genuinely underwhelmed. Of course beauty is in the etc etc, but by crikey that does look dull.
If I were the marketing chap at Polestar I'd want it crammed full of power, just so folks would have something to feel great about.
And £50k? Phew.

I would like to draw your attention to the number of these cars gathering dust on UK dealers' premises and to the fact that some dealers have not yet had their orders shipped from Sweden.

Volvo in Sweden count dealers' orders, not those placed by customers with dealers.

Seems like a sensible starting vehicle for entry in WTC though.

I gather Rickard Rydell only ended up with the estate due to a Swedish misunderstanding as "touring car" sounded a lot like "towing car"

I love my Volvos, aged 26 I have had two new ones (C30 and V40) and an old one - 850 T5R, all excellent cars. I love this too, but I couldn't pay fifty grand for one knowing it'd depreciate badly compared to German rivals, sadly, give it until they are two years old though and just try and stop me!

As much as I love Rebel Blue it'd have to be black, though, stealth factor! Superb car IMO, I'd take one over its rivals every time.

Yawn this forum is more like money saving expert than pistonheads every thread moaning about price . Aren't we all powerfully built directors with a unlimited bank account.

Love this. The standard v60 is the best looking car in this sector, volvo make the best looking cars out there at th moment

yes My C30 looked (IMO) far better than the Astra, Focus, Golf, 1 Series and A3, and my current V40 trumps the same models - great little cars that look very striking.

Just seen a Polestar V60 on the Autotrader in black, 7,500 miles on the clock for £40,000..... God damnit! yum

No, the car is a bit dull and overpriced imo......its the emotion thats lacking or it may help justify the price.

Suddenly the rediculously overpriced £40k RS3 looks better value hehe
I doubt that there'd be a round between the price of the RS3 and the polestar once you've added on the extras that you as a new owner would expect to have and the next owner will be picky to ensure it has come resale time (which I suspect the Volvo has as standard in it's price).

Perhaps they should learn the marketing tricks from the German trio and have what appear to be a reasonable list price and then charge the earth for extras most other manufacturers include in their list price, genuine question.

Whilst it pisses me off to see an attractive price only to see the final price increases by 20-30% with options added I can see that the marketing's worked as otherwise I wouldn't have even looked at the car.
Exaclty, that RS3 is actually more like £45k, minimum.

And an evenly optioned Audi S4 costs not much less than the Polestar, same story for the BMW 335i Msport XDrive auto, and their not limited editions...

Allthough, choosing your own spec. does have same advantages; I'm not interested in; electric seats, all of todays driver aids, sunroofs etc.

O, by the way, Sportauto tested the Polstar vs. the S4 (heavy and totally lost on track), the BMW 335i (only 10 kg's lighter than the Polestar) and the Vauxhall VXR, and guess who won the test....and that in Germany:

Took my GT3 RS to the tip today (tiny boot and terrible ground clearance)

See how that works.

My info is from an interview i read with volvos head of product planning. They set the inital limit to 750 to not overload the dealers and having unsold cars standing there. But they sold them in no time (of course there will be some cars at the dealers anyway), therefore the plan of producing more of them. But PH probably have better knowledge about volvos economy and procution planning than they do smile

I think its priced perfectly, if I were in the market I would be looking at this over the alternatives.

its aimed at those people with prejudices, those who don't want a BMW / Merc / Audi or someone who like me, want something that wont appear on the drive 3 doors down and then another 8 doors down.

seems to do everything well in that typical understated volvo way

To be fair, the S4 was running Pirelli Cintauros, (which are compromised for durability) and the Volvo is on Michelin PSS. Also the BMW was somewhat underpowered for this test (down 37 hp and 100 nm in torque)despite being 10 kg lighter.

Still, a very nice showing from a road car that ticks all the boxes most likely to trigger PH Driving God superiority complex. hehe

I know what you are saying and tending to agree with you - all except on the price front, I really do feel it is £10k more than it should be... Yeah, rival it against the 3series, A4 Avants & C-Class Mercs...but for that £50k price, its pitched at things like a pre-reg/near new RS4, new GLA45....both are far more desirable in my book and likely many others?

I'm sure it will sell tho and after the first year or two's depreciation it might actually be a sensible used buy...but just can't see it as a new purchase I'm afraid.
