How does a 300 bhp, twin turbo, heavier Impreza do 32 mpg when Imprezas usually do 20 mpg ?
Taller gearing, slipperier shape. IIRC when they aren't restricted the Legacy has a higher top speed too, they set the production station wagon record with them at around 170mph in 1998.Imprezas only do 20mpg on the internet or when being driven hard though, real ones in normal driving usually average mid 20s and around 30 on a run.
They don't, mine did mid 20s.
the real cost of ownership on these can be ruinous, mine went through 3 engines in my ownership and eventually I threw in the towel and sent it to the scrappy rather than rebuild AGAIN.. I feel this owners pain having spent a load on mine just before scrapping.

THREE? How?!!
Exactly, 3 engines to me sounds like it was taken to someone who didnt know what they were doing or its driver input error...And they do mid 20's as a reasonable average.
If you only got 20mpg and blew 3 engines then something was OBVIOUSLY seriously wrong.
When I sold my old Zed wheels a few years back, the chap who bought them for his 200SX (I think) turned up in one of these. We hoofed the wheels into the boot without needing to put the seats down. Then chatted for about half an hour on it being a real wolf in sheep's clothing besides being a very practical if tad thirsty car. Apparently he bought it for his missus without realising exactly what the "GTB" bit meant...
I imported one, way back in 2000....an auto. Wonderful when it worked but was stolen from new, then caught fire...split fuel line and was virtually destroyed. beautifully built, but boomy interior and somewhat plastic dash area. A top drive though and not too big. Thirsty and had to be kept on the boil to get the turbos spooled up.

In what world does this not have the "council image" of the Impreza? At least the Impreza is an iconic car...
I would argue that these have never had a chavvy or council estate image, I understand why you may assume so, but they are worlds apart from imprezas and other barried junk that blighted council estates of yon.Johnspex said:
How does that make any sense at all? If he put another £1k on it you'd be interested?
Maybe he's desperate for the money, maybe he doesn't appreciate it could be worth more , maybe he just wants rid of it.
Yes fair enough, maybe I just don't have a good picture of the market for these, but as someone who's not interested in breaking cars, this just screams big expensive issues to fix.Maybe he's desperate for the money, maybe he doesn't appreciate it could be worth more , maybe he just wants rid of it.
But then again at least you can't really lose much.
As I said great cars, remember falling in love with them in Gran Turismo
