Another great shed. Curious as to how it compares to its Mitsubishi rival, the Legnum VR4.

So it now doesn't qualify as 'SOTW'.
I'm guessing the boost issue cost a few quid and the seller decided to up the price to recover some of the cost. Surley, it would've made more sense to have the issue resolved in the first place and advertise it at one price.
Not for me.

In a drag race probably, on the road I doubt it.

Great SOTW, I have had 3 of these, first 1 I imported from Japan myself it cost me £4k total and had 34k on the clock on a 97 plate and was immaculate, extremely fast and capable and could keep up with my integrale which has circa 280bhp too.
You need to drive one to appreciate how good they are and my favourite feature was not many people knew what it was and how damn quick it was.
Saw 165mph on my TomTom on the Autobahn and it was still pulling, I think the fella in the 2007 RS4 in front wondered WTF was behind him that he couldnt shake.
Upgraded to a 3.0 Spec B now, still a fantastic car that most dont know how fast and well built it is.

Drove on the of VR4 before I bought the GTB, wallowly by comparison probably due to the GTBs Bilsteins.

I hope he'll honour the price since there's a guy seeing it today. Or perhaps they've come to an agreement already. Either way, if it's worth more, it's his car and can do what he wants. Still a bargain.

Rot is a problem, though it may be OK if it's not been in the UK for too many winters. Mine was a 2000 Outback, UK car. Rotten as a pear behind those plastic sill covers. Even the bonnet slam panel had disappeared at one side. Rear chassis legs, particularly above exhaust boxes, can be Weetabix. Usual piss-take parts prices & all the fixings turn into nubs of rust that you can't get a socket onto any more - so pigs to work on. Have had Impreza Turbo & Forester Turbo, both from new - & that's the way to buy them. Get rid when the warranty runs out.

As I said on P3, was going to see it today.

Met the owner, great chap, very enthusiastic.

Car seems great, bodywork isn't ideal, the front bumper is a mess and the rear has some cracking, a few wee rust splodges on the arches however none of that is particularly problematic, bodywork cosmetics can be fixed with relative ease.

Had a proper look at the underside, very clean, reminded me of my Nissan Silvia when it came off the boat, looks like it had been undersealed also.

Sills were solid.

Bit of a scratch / dent in the offside rear passenger door, unfortunate love tap from a fence post I believe. Not the end of the world but not the best thing either.

Wheels could do with a proper good scrub, don't think they are at refurb level, but some time & elbow grease would make those BBS's come to life.

Interior was nice, everything seemed relatively wear free bar the gearstick (H pattern was worn away, who cares)

Owner left it stone-cold for me, had a good look under the bonnet, everything was neat, clean and seemed to be in good order. Started at the first turn of the key, no masssive movement in the engine so the assuming the cylinders are fine. No knocking, clunking or ticking, seems pretty good in the mechanical department.

Owner took me for a drive in it, drove it carefully up to temp then let it loose, first time I've been out in a geniune GTB, can't lie in that I had a good grin on my face, they certainly pull!

You really notice the famed "Valley of Death" at 4k RPM, but once you get past that it's just power power power.

Car handled suprisingly well, felt stiff and firm in the corners, but not uncomfortable so, steering was smooth and precise. Brakes felt OK, could probably do with a set of 4-pots on the front that said, relatively heavy car.

All in all I give it a 7/10.

I paid the deposit and will be picking it up next week. Looking to restore the bodywork as first priority, fix the rust splotches and sort out the front bumper & wheels

Also the steering wheel, which was met with abject hatred at first, was suprisingly nice to use. I don't think I'll keep it, it was nice, but not nice enough that I want to look at it daily.

I had one and stopped using purely because it was a 2nd car and i had the use of a work van, so it got parked on the inlaws driveway, after a year they wanted the driveway and i didn't need the car so sold it for something stupid like £800 with no mot.

The guys plan was to use it for parts for his gtb, but he said mine was in better condition so would take parts of the other car.

I still regret it and last year sent a message to the guy who purchased it asking if he still had it and did he want to sell it.

To credit him massively, he said he bumped the price due to fixing the issue however we had discussed the sale under the assumption it was £1000 and he said he would stick with that number because I had travelled up assuming it was that. Top bloke.

Can't ask for more than that, chuck 400 quid at tidying the bodywork up and that's a complete bargain of a car.

Well done, I know the car (have driven it several times) and know the previous owner (the subaru specialist mentioned) very well.

I'd have bought this unseen if I'd seen this ad in time!

I've had two GTBs over the years. I preferred them to the Impreza Turbos (of which I also had two). Of the four engines, three died of HGF.

As for the MPG.... I was using a GTB for the school run, and the cost was so shocking, I bought a Fiat Panda (the old shed shaped one). The extra car completely paid for itself in just one term of fuel savings.
