I'd take the Lexus every time. The dealers are ace and the polar opposite of my local BMW ones. I've not driven either but the M4 seems to have been damned with faint praise since it was launched. The press usually fawn all over M cars so it must be somewhat underwhelming.

Good review.

Fake engine noise makes sense for electric vehicles without any.

Fake engine noise pumped into the cabin of a car with an engine is embarrassing.

My only comment is my standard rant about BMW Pricing. £55,235 List but add (mostly) basic necessary options and it reaches £73,770! The extra £18,535 would buy another decent car!

I've read three track test results now and its interesting that on anything other than a decent dry surface, the Lexus can trade blow for blow on track with the BM, not bad considering the weight disadvantage. Top Gear said the new M car was 4 seconds faster than the old one, but I suspect a lot of that is the new faster Stig, as he seems to lap everything way faster than old stig, I mean the Merc AMG GT was faster than a Ferrari 458....I think the Audi RS5, which is hated by the specialist motoring press, makes a better all year round car to own than either of these two and in this months EVO test on a cold and slippery surface beat both Lexus and BMW by 3 seconds on the track.....

But nobody (sensible) pays list price for a BMW. That 74k will be more like 62 or 63k And give it 6-12 months and it will be somewhere in the mid 50s (for a new one).

Imho, advantage one goes to the M4 with its option of a proper manual gearbox. I also don't get the "dull" exhaust notecomments about it though. I heard one go up the hill at Goodwood last year and it sounded great. The V8 sounded ok, but nowhere near the E46, especially the CSL.
