Can't help but find this a little cynical from AM. They've seen the success that Ferrari, Maclaren and Porsche have had shifting high value low volume cars, but can't be bothered or don't have the resource to develop a road car, so instead have taken the simpler route of launching a track car.
Every firm has a right to make money, and good luck to them if they can find 24 people to buy it, but I increasingly find that Aston's oddities ( not letting anyone drive the One-77, the "new" Lagonda only being available in the Middle East, the Cygnet and now this ) are damping my enthusiasm for the mark

I was just about to post something similar!
There was me thinking poor old Lotus got some stick for the Evora 400, but some of the posts on this thread make the Lotus-dissing look amateur.
At least the cars that look similar are stunning though and the One-77 managed to be different and still look cool. There was me thinking poor old Lotus got some stick for the Evora 400, but some of the posts on this thread make the Lotus-dissing look amateur.
This just looks a mess to my eyes really one of the least appealing designs I have seen in a while and seems a bit outdated on paper compared to rivals and down on power whilst up in price.
No doubt they have probably sold them all already anyway ready to be locked in a garage and never used so it doesn't really matter what us mere mortals think...

Slightly surprised by the negative reaction- I think it looks rather awesome in a Lamborghini special kind of way.
Also "Aston Martin Front-mid 7ltr V12 with 800bhp" frankly it could look like a turd and it wouldn't matter- it'll sound like God gargling galaxies :-)
Well you do realise it's because anything british will always be hated by the British it's the way we roll in this country today ! Also "Aston Martin Front-mid 7ltr V12 with 800bhp" frankly it could look like a turd and it wouldn't matter- it'll sound like God gargling galaxies :-)
Some of the detailing is stunning!
Also, it maybe down on power, but only because it hasn't got an electric motor boosting it.
engine for engine, its in the same area.
It'll obv be used, as that's part of the purchase package.
At the end of the day, if you can afford it, you already have a La Ferrari, P1 etc, so its not about choice.
I would love to see this up against the Ferrari 599 XX

Its rival is not the 599xx though its the new track ready P1 or LaFerrari FXXK which with 200hp - 250hp more and instant torque would probably muller it whilst being cheaper. From a financial sense it will sell as limited edition cars like this always do but its a shame it doesn't on paper seem to no where near as good as the major rivals or as technologically advanced whilst being worse looking. Also, it maybe down on power, but only because it hasn't got an electric motor boosting it.

I love the brand but it has to be a No from me.

Given who is buying them, there isn't really a rival, they can have them all!
FXXXK, P1 and This if they like.
I only picked the 599XX as its a Front engined track car, as this is.
Its not as advanced as the Mcl or Ferrari no, but does it matter? Some dinosaurs are just cool!
Times will change, they always do. Things are coming.....

Seems like an extremely enjoyable way to spend £1.5m
I really hope this soft launch of the new styling works for AM as breaking away from something they got so phenomenally right and still looks so fresh and great 15 years on is bloody difficult.
I would rather they stay very close to the perfect design language they have currently. Like Porsche with the 911, if it aint broke don't fix it and stop pandering to people who want a 'refresh' for the sake of it.I really hope this soft launch of the new styling works for AM as breaking away from something they got so phenomenally right and still looks so fresh and great 15 years on is bloody difficult.
The picture earlier does look cracking though.
Oddly, most two seater (proper) racers are RHD because most circuits go clockwise and it positions you closest to the apex of the majority of corners...
I suspect this is LHD for the convenience of the majority of the buyers...
My first thought was it's a little like the new Corvette.

AMs are lovely but design always need to evolve (911s have evolved over the decades). If the Vulcan introduces the design language for the new DB9 and others then I reckon Marek Reichmann and friends have done an excellent job.Recognisably an Aston Martin but tighter with more modern lines.
They are competing with Ferrari, Mclaren, Mercedes, Lamborghini and Porsche without the resources of those companies so good luck to them if they re-use One-77 bits and sell them for £1.8m each.
IMO, it's stunning! I've long been a big fan of the DB7/DB9's styling, but realize that styling can't remain static. Though many will agree the original DB7 and DB9 are still gorgeous cars, many will also see them as being outdated. After all, the styling cues really date back to the late '50s with the original DB series of cars.
If the Vulcan is a harbinger of Aston styling for the coming years, I must say the future looks bright, indeed. If you take away some of the more extreme, track-orientated pieces, you can get a good idea of what the next-gen Astons may (hopefully) look like. It's enough of a difference to look modern, whilst still retaining a profile that's recognizably Aston-Martin.

Hardly any innovation going on here is there? Are Aston just not capable of thinking for themselves? First they spot the market for extremely expensive "hyper" cars opened up by Veyron etc and release the largely irrelevant One77 and now they are exploiting another market forged by others with this. When will they come up with their own new idea?? It wouldn't be so bad if their road cars were at the forefront of the segments they are in but if you take looks out of the equation which are largely subjective anyway none of their cars are best in class. I would suggest getting these as good as they can be would be a better use of resources
